On item 4 are we to say "yes" even if me and my wife have filed a joint return? In my case my wife is on H4 visa and does she also have to say "yes" for item 4 on her form? Please help me. Thanks.

If item 4 is "did you file tax return" then if you filed jointly, she filed too. It's not that you filed only and she did not. -
You might want to note in the lower portion of the form "filed jointly with spouse."Comment

IRS 9003 question?
If your wife is on H4 pl mark has "No". They are asking individual Income Tax & not joint. Even i was on H4 so I mentioned "NO".Comment

My wife and I filed jointly what is called an INDIVIDUAL tax return (I read from the return title). I marked YES as she was filing too, fact she was not working does not diminish from it in any way.Comment
