Police clearance in Mumbai needed ?

I'm preparing for CP at mumbai. I'm preparing Packet-III documents now & I hope our company lawer will apply it by 1st week of next month.

What I hear from people that we DO NOT need police clearance certificates at mumbai consulate for CP.

Should I apply for police clearance or not ? Please advice....
Reason I'm asking is it takes 45 days to get police clearance & what if I get my interview date before that ?

Please advice on this.

YES, YOU DO NEED A PC FROM THE INDIAN CONSULATE IN THE STATE YOU LIVE. IN YOUR CASE, IT WILL BE THE ONE IN SF. ONE GUY HAS POSTED HIS COMMUNICATION WITH THE IV DEPT MUMBAI, WHICH EXPLICITELY STATES THAT YOU DO NEED A PC !!
