Glad to report that we got our petition approved.
The experience was mostly good but here are a few pointers:
1. Remember not to take *any* electronic item or handbag with you. Its a pain trying to find a place to hold these for you. Note that you can leave stuff at the Raj pavillion. I ran into some hassles here as I had inadvertently taken my car remote with me.
2. Don't take photos at a local INS office. Our photos were not accepted and we had to retake them at the consulate. Simpler to have this done at the consulate/Myownphoto studio. The consulate ones are really convenient as it only requires 10 mins and about 150 Rs for 5.
3. Take photocopies of everything. The cost of copying a doc at the consulate is only 5 rs, so you can get some done there too. At the counter, submit only your copies. If they need to see your originals,
they will ask for them.
4. Shalimar hotel is a great place to stay - a bit expensive though. They let us use the room for 2 hours even though we'd checked out earlier during the day. This was really welcome esp due to the heat out there.
5. The staff at Hinduja were excellent. They even kept an eye on our bags for us while we were running for xrays etc.
6. At POE, they did not take our X-Rays. At Mumbai airport, they did not ask for any police clearance/tax docs.
Rest was just as everyone else has mentioned.
Good luck to everyone heading out for interviews.
Regds.
