CP or AOS ???????

VSC I 140 APPROVED after a long wait !! AOS or CP ???

EB2/RIR/Masters +6 yr exp/ PD JUN 99/RD of I-140 is MAR 05 2000
Thro automated system we heard that it has been approved as of OCT 26th.

My 6 year H1 ends by JAN 15th 2001 so this sure is a great news.

NOW lawyer called and said she has got a packet from state dept saying they have sent my approval to CHENNAI for consular processing. I HAVE NOT ASKED FOR IT as my H1 expires in JAN2001.
If i get the interview before Jan 1st week, Is it not wise to take that ????? Please help by throwing some input......
How long does it take to get the interview date from chennai ????
If something goes wrong will i be able to re enter US using the new law S2045 (extending H1 ) ??
Should i extend the H1 using new law and just wait for the CP interview date ??? I prefer to do CP as we can get this whole thing finished in that one trip !!

Enough already with the question marks, exclamation marks and periods. It is quite disorienting.

If your file has already been sent to Chennai you should fill out Packet 3 ASAP and send it to be hand delivered. you might get lucky and get a date in Jan or Feb. Even if your interview is in Feb or March you could stay here after the expiry of your H-1B. you wont get into trouble for your CP unless you have overstayed 6 months. Otherwise you could apply for AOS and be stuck with your employer forever ( the new law S 2045 may not be implemented for a while)

thank you so much for the reply. I have asked the lawyer to hand over the packet to me so that i can decide soon.

Now, if i get the interview for CP and then the priority dates go back, i will miss the boat right ??
