  • Changing employer after CP interview

    Hi,

After how much of time, from the CP interview can you change employer?
And how much time does it take to get a green card after CP interview?
I am planning to change job within 3 months and my priority date is current.
Now is it possible for me to get CP within this time and hop on?

    Thanks,
    Anupam

I'd like to add my experience on this:

In mumbai, i signed a document stating that "i will work for the same employer upon returning to the states........i should inform the local INS office in the event i change jobs" something like that. BTW please ask the consul to make you a photocopy of that document and post it here. I went to the local INS office and also called INS 1800 phone number. Their response was if you haven't signed any contract with your present employer, you can do whatever you want.

Read "after greencard" forum for details.

The document that we sign during the interview

As far as I can recall this document only says that you need to inform the local consulate if you change the job before landing in US. It doesn't talk about changing jobs after landing in US.

In anycase, good idea is to wait for 1 year, IMO.

          My 2c

Read what is posted on this site as directed above. My suggestion is if you can proved beyond reasonable doubt that you did not get the ball rolling before getting the GC. Did not lie under Oath when you did the GC interview.

You are fine. You will land in soup only if the INS can prove that you intended to quit / had planned ahead of getting the GC and you have lied during the time of interview.

          So use your discreetion
