Wife's name on the passport?

Hi,

Do we have to include our wife's name in the passport. It is one of the fields on the last pages of our passport.

I have not included my wife's name and don't know if it is really required.

Pls. advise.

Immihelp:
The OF169-Supplement, recieved from NVC, says the following:
"If you are married, your passport should be amended
to reflect your marriage"

I understand that this supplement is not talking about the spouse name change, but merely getting the passport updated about the marriage. Currently my wife has the marriage cert. stapled to the passport when she got the H1, and we are also maintaining her maiden name.

Now is this statement to be ignored, or to be treated something like the sailing permit ( "whereby, it is not required, but nobody wants to be the first one to find out")

Its confusing and hence I asked mumbai consulate
and got following reply.

If you wants your wife's immigrant visa to be issued under married name than
you must make necessary amendment in your wife's passport. If your wife
passport is in her maiden name than she will be issued Immigrant visa under
her maiden name.
