  • Packet 3 sent by NVC

I just called NVC and found out that they have mailed today Packet 3 to my lawyer and Bombay consulate.
    My details:
    VSC EB2 I140 Approved on 8th Sept 2000
NVC Received on 13th Sept 2000
NVC sent Packet 3 today that is 27th Sept 2000.

    I have a question,
My lawyer tells that now consulates have started asking for Police Certificate even though I have just been in India and US. Is that true?
Answer would be very much appreciated.

    Thank you,
    Ravi

Call NVC again. NVC told me that my packet 3 was sent to my lawyer on 25 Sep but when I talked to the second operator to ask for the case number, she told me that it normally took another one to two weeks for packet 3 to be physically sent out.

India police report is requied, consulate should check the US record, you do not need to supply US police report.

      thanks for your reply.

I called NVC operator again and they said the same, the packet 3 has been sent to Bombay consulate and to the lawyer on 27th Sep. It will take 7 to 10 days to reach to the lawyer.

Now, are you sure I will need Indian Police certificate? This is because on Immihelp.com, it says,

      "Police Certificates
If you are going to India for CP, police Certificates are NOT needed for stay in India or US. DSL-1083 document is obsolete. Even though it does not mention India in the list of countries from where police certificates are not required, they are not required from India. If you have lived at any place outside India for more than six months you should inquire at the Consulate General about obtaining police certificate from these places. Police Certificates should be no more than one year old at the time of visa application.

Please note that if you have stayed in India but you are not doing CP in India but in places like Montreal, Canada; you require police certificates from India. You can get a police clearance very quickly from your local Indian consulate. They do it on the basis of a passport check."

        police report

If you are CP is in india, you do not need india police report. If your CP is in third country, then you need india police report which you can get from india consulate.
