  • Police clearence for CP..

I came to know from Chennai Consulate that It is not required to submit Police clearance (from Passport agency)
If I have stayed only in India and US.
    Can anyone double-check this?
Does any one who has attended the CP, please share your experience regarding Police clearance certificate. Did they have asked for Police clearance?

My lawyer says we must carry Police clearance as we have signed OF-230 saying we are ready with Police clearance certificate. Any feedback or your experience would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks again
    Raj

I have not completed CP but as far as I know, Police Clearances are NOT required for USA and India. If you have stayed for more than 1 year since 16 yrs of age in any other country, they are required from that country - specifically, from the area you lived in.
As far as reading people's experiences with CP (mostly Mumbai), I gather that they are not asking for those. Was anyone doing CP actually asked for clearances ??

      Police Clearance

      Hello,
You don't need a police clearance certificate as you have only stayed in India and US. I have not gone thru' CP but I sent a mail to Mumabi COnsulate asking if I need a police certificate. They replied negative so I asked my attorney to uncheck that check box against Police certificate sicne my attorney also checked that one.

I guess your lawyer is right since you have signed 169 form to show police certificate and sent the documents. You should have cross checked before filing Packet III. ANyway I will advise you to take police certificate from Indian consulate here in US. Someone said that it is always better to be safe than sorry.

      Hope this helps

        Police

        Raju,
Forgot to add. Send a mail to Chennai COnsulate asking for the same explaining your situation. Telling them that "you have stayed only in India and US but mentioned to procedue police certificate in 169 form. DO you need a police certificate."

Take a print out of their reply if they don't need a certificate. Make 3 photocopies and keep it with you just in case the receiving official who collects your document asks for that. Then show that mails to him/her

        Thanks

          Re: Police

Funny thing is that Chennai website mentions that you need Police Clearances if you have stayed in another country for more than 6 months. On form OF-169 it states 1 year !! I hear that it is different for each country ??!!

            Police certificates

Hi friends, I am also in the same situation. I have already sent my packet 3 to Delhi about 2 weeks back. My attorney has also checked the police cerficate box. When I said that police certificates are not required for persons who have lived in only in India & USA, he(attornet) said if we do not check this box they won't give the interview. Now I am not sure what to do? Any body who has recently done cp at Delhi please share your experience. Also if we read the web site of Delhi it say " All applicants must police certificats and of couse other documents" but the chennai web site say the opposite, that is you don't need police certificates if you you have only lived in India & USA.Please post your views.
            Thanks.

              Re: Police certificates

I lived only in USA and India. My stay in UK was only four months only. So I did not even mention my stay in UK ( as it is less than 6 months). Last week I completed CP at Madras successfully. I did not check the box for Police certificate and consulate did not ask me any police certificate.
