Obtained: Sailing Permit + Tax Transcripts

I obtained my Sailing Permit and Tax Transcripts today from the IRS office in Wheaton, MD. The address for this & other offices is at:

It was a breeze. Since I went in person, they did not take my form 4506 for Tax Transcripts. Just issued them. The Tax transcripts are a large continuous printout on a dot matrix printer. They put the IRS seal and signature stamps on the first page.

Filled out perforated form 2063 for Sailing Permit. They checked my Passport & Air Tickets. And issued the Sailing Permit. The sailing permit is actually detached from the perforations on form 2063. It too bears the IRS stamp and signature.

That's it. Was out in 10 minutes. You will find my case details if you dig through the threads.

A. I think you mean Box 4. I wrote 2000. Because I have already filed my tax return FY2000. I suspect that if you haven't filed our tax return FY2000, you will have to write 1999 (I am presuming you have filed your tax return FY1999).

I am still working on H1-B status. Do I need to take sailing permit for CP?

Yes, it is recommended.

Sailing Permit is NOT a compulsorily required document. It is the equivalent of "Income Tax Clearance" certificate.

Technically speaking, Yes. I haven't taken one for my spouse since she is my dependent so far as GC is concerned.

I got my sailing permit yesterday from a local IRS walk-in center. After a couple of questions regarding my return air ticket, 2000 tax extension and my previous year 1999 tax returns, I was given a sailing permit.
