  • Chennai P3 hand delivery experience

P3 was hand delivered in Chennai on Feb 28 by my Dad who travelled from Bangalore to do so. Though he knew that they accept hand delivery between 3.00pm and 5.00pm (thanks to immihelp), he was at the consulate at 1.30pm. At first he did not approach the gate directly because it was closed and there was a line of people waiting outside. Now I'm kicking my self for forgetting to tell him that he need not have stood in the line and waited in the sun for two hours. Besides the other folk in the line began to confuse him that the consulate does not accept applictions and that there is an agency that does it for them in Alwarpet etc.(which may be true for some other visa apps). The gate opened at 3.00pm but after standing in line some time he did tell the guard that he was just dropping off the applications for GC. The guard also told him that the counter is open from 3.00 to 3.15 ONLY !!!! NOT 3-5pm. Though it was 3.45 they let him bypass the line but they did not let him in with his travel bags. So he had to request someone in the line to watch over the bags till he went in and came out of the consulate. He was then frisked several times and one guard even wanted to see inside the sealed envelope (letter bomb?). Dad noticed that nobody else giving the applications by hand were carrying the papers in envelopes (no idea why). Anyway, he then went up to a counter where a guy of indian origin opened the cover and went through the papers and said everything was fine. The tension my dad was in, he did not ask the man "what next" and the guy also did not say anything either. My dad came out at 4.00pm and was fatigued and dissapointed by the experience though it was a seemingly simple case of hand delivery. He felt that the consulate needs to empathise better with the people who come for their services. Well, I hope this helps others who are planning sending a relative or friend for hand delivery. The last thing I wanted to subject my Dad to was the sun and heat of Chennai and the pointless waiting outside the consulate.

Since the consulate recieved my P3 on Feb 28 I'm not sure if I will be able to get an interview in April. Will I?? Let me know your opinions please. Thanks.

    Guys,

I'm not sure about the closing of the hand delivery counter at Chennai. I now notice several guys mentioning that. So please check the previous postings if it is true. I must have overlooked them. If anybody has absolute proof, please let the others know. I still have to call the chennai consulate to check if my P3 is entered in their system.

Why so much obsession with Hand Delivery of P3

Sorry to hear about the experience of Drifx's Dad. I really wonder why there is so much fear and obsession about delivering the P3 by hand and in turn troubling your near and dear ones even if that means that they have to travel from far and have to overcome their anxiety of doing a procedure that they have never done it before. When I was about to submit my P3 then all these fears of getting P3 lost in mail came over and I considered the advantage of sending P3 by mail or getting it hand delivered. It appeared to me that there is no hard and fast evidence that the P3 sent by mail/courier is lost in the mail or not acted upon as fast as hand delivered one. There had been few posting on this and other forum where cnadidated have expressed their fear that their p3s send by mail haven't reaced the consulate, but to me they all seemed to be cases where as soon as they see the fedex/ups track and see that their P3 has reached the consulate they start calling the consulate and ask about their P3s being received or not. In most of the cases there is a time lag before any document is received in the mail by the consulate and they actually start processing it and sometime that could be up to 2 weeks depending upon the priority of the document, so all of them got the answer that their P3 has not been received. Nut in 2 cases that I know personally, after 2 weeks the consulate admitted that their P3 have been received and entered in their system. Well I chosed to send it by courier, and as expected when I called them after a week, I got the same reply that P3 not received, next week the same reply too, but 3rd week the reply was that they have received and has been entered in their system.

This is just my opinion and should not influence anybody in anyway. I fully understand the whole green card process is of such an importance that a little trouble here and there just to make sure that the things are going in the right direction are fully justified.

packet 3 hand deliverey and chennai

I was also one of those who felt that fedex or ups was the best choice. I still do. Unfortunately for me the people at the consulate lost my biographic data. I can't believe they got some part of my packet 3 and not the other. My Pkt 3 was mailed on Jan 5th and fedex delivered it on Jan 10th. But here I am still, without an interview date and a lost pkt3 to boot. Just to make sure I had mine hand delivered.

I know a lot of people whose P3 fedex worked out very well for them. If you are one of those unlucky ones ...

          -cheers,
          Jim

Re: packet 3 hand deliverey and chennai

            Suddenjim,
Did you get a corrected I-140 with CP? My I-140 also says AOS but still haven't managed to get a corrected I-140 with CP. But the file has reached NVC.

            Thanks,
            Cicili

              Corrected I-140

              Clarence,

I did get a corrected I-140. It took me about 1.5 months to get the corrected I-140. My case did not reach NVC during this time. So I guess you have been lucky.

              -Cheers,
              Jim.
