  • What is the process after Consulate receives P3?

    Immihelp and Others,

I have sent my Packet3 to the consulate and after tracking through the courier I sent, I was told that it has been delivered and gave me the recipient's name and day and time of the delivery. I am hoping the approved I-140 sent by NVC to the consulate has been received by the consulate by now as well. Now my question is, what is the process that the consulate follows after receiving both these documents, before they sent packet4 with interview letter. I was told that the wait time to get an interview date is around 2-3 months for my consulate. Does this wait time depend strictly on the work load of the consulate or are there any other factors? Because, I saw a posting somewhere which stated that the consulate has to wait for visa number. What is this visa number? Is it a "A" number? If it is, as far as I know, this is generated at point-of-entry (POE). Or does the consulate do some kind of background checking and that's why it takes 2-3 months? Any light-shedding on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Newa
