Can someone please tell me why I824 is needed and why AC140 cannot be done? Why waste time going through the I824 process?

Milind:

It depends on your Consulate. Not all consulates accept AC-140. In India, Mumbai and I think Delhi also, accepts AC-140. But Chennai does not.

If a consulate does not accept AC-140, and if you have opted for AOS in your I-140, and then would like to change over to change over to CP you have to fil I-824. You have no other choice. And now for even Mumbai to accept your AC-140, you have to have filed you I-824.

Well the true reason ( At least what I think).

- They want you to be clear in your mind as to what you want to do AOS / CP.

One cannot try to do both and have both applications continue to process ( Choose one in the end). Wasted time, effort etc,etc ( You know how backed up they are).
