  • Adding dependent

    Hello all,
I have a question regarding adding a dependent/spouse to the green card processing. I recieved packet 3 from National Visa Center recently and was informed that my application has been forwarded to the consulate in India.
I haven't sent packet3 to the consulate yet?
Now my question is, how much time do i have before its too late to add a spouse? Can i send them packet3 and still add the spouse later?

    Thanks...

I believe you can add your spouse's name to the pkt.3 when sending to India along with proof of your marriage certificate.

      Adding dependent

Didn't expect to get here so fast. A follow up question? If i change my employer now, what can i reuse labor/I-140 etc? are there any restrictions? i was told that i should take up a job with the same pay and similar positions, is that true?

        No

You have to start over again. The ONLY thing you can keep is PD.

My advise is to wait, do CP and then change the job.

Add your spouse NOW, else once you get a Green Card, it is a very long process to add spouse. More over she will have to wait in India. You will make your Father -in-Law enemy of life time..!

          Re: No

I agree with tp126. Dont change your job yet. Also, add your wife's name when u send in your pkt.3

            Re: No

You can add your spouse's name to the your CP processing till your interview. I am doing the same. I confirmed this by calling US Embassy at Delhi. I got married recently and I am going for the interview with all the forms filled up for my wife also.

              Re: No

So, i can send packet 3 to the consulate and get an interview date and still be able to add my spouse later?
(not even close to having one yet!!) is that right?

And also, what if i am unable to make it to a scheduled interview? can i postpone it to a later date?

                Re: No

Well, when I submitted my packet 3, I know who I was going to marry but I wasn't married at that time. I submitted packet 3 and I am going for the interview with my spouse very soon. You can add a dependent (spouse or children) till your interview date. Hope it helps.
