Hello everyone,

I have posed the same question elsewhere in another thread.Posting again for larger audience.

My first Visa was stamped in MUMBAI and I have stayed with my company since 1995.Later Visa extensions have been done through Washington.

My permanent address on passport is from Karnataka - which falls under Chennai.

At the time of filing 140 the company Lawyer specified MUMBAI as my consulate. After going through various posts on this messageboard (immihelp), I realized that there could be a problem and spoke with my lawyer who suggested that I send my packet 3 to Chennai even though my case number is from Mumbai.

I wanted to confirm this and called MUMBAI Consulate and told them that My address was in Karnataka ).
The lady I spoke with told me that since the case had been sent to Mumbai, they are going to handle it and that I should send packet 3 to them. (She kept repeating this even after I told her that my address was from Karnataka.

NOW I AM TOTALLY CONFUSED.

I do not even have a Ration Card in my name at this point. I do not have an address/documents in Mumbai Zone ( Except my driver licence from 1995 )

I would like to know If anyone has had similar experience or recalles havimg read something similar on this message board.

I shall greatly appreciated any help in the matter.

Current or former residence in the consulate area

To qualify for a particular consulate you either
need to be a current resident or a former resident.

It appears that you were a former resident. Just go with
Bombay. I can almost guarantee that Madras will
not accept a case that was generated for Bombay.

Send in your Packet 3 to Bombay.

Anyone knows how long it takes to get an appontment from the day they rcv packet 3 at MUMBAI.

Any Idea how long it takes for MUMBAI to give the dates ?
