If you're contemplating Consular Processsing, I'd say go for it. My interview was on Dec. 11 and was more or less smooth.
For the interview, all you need is:
OF 230 Part 1 & 2.
B.C. (You can obtain one from the Indian Consulate - I used that) and a photocopy.
M.C.and a photocopy.
Notarized Employment Letter.
3 Photographs (If you're in Houston, go to Bill's on Hillcroft - I used those photos) of each person.
Medical Report (Don't submit X-Ray) of each person..
IRC Form 9003 for each person.
Affidavit of Sponsorship (for my wife) - 134.
My application was sent out around the same time as the State Dept. Memo, so there was some confusion as to whether I-824 is required or not. I think it's mandatory now. If you're curious about me, I did apply for it and obtained it before my interview but nobody asked for it.
