If you're contemplating Consular Processsing, I'd say go for it. My interview was on Dec. 11 and was more or less smooth.

For the interview, all you need is:
    OF 230 Part 1 & 2.
B.C. (You can obtain one from the Indian Consulate - I used that) and a photocopy.
    M.C.and a photocopy.
    Notarized Employment Letter.
3 Photographs (If you're in Houston, go to Bill's on Hillcroft - I used those photos) of each person.
Medical Report (Don't submit X-Ray) of each person..
IRC Form 9003 for each person.
Affidavit of Sponsorship (for my wife) - 134.

My application was sent out around the same time as the State Dept. Memo, so there was some confusion as to whether I-824 is required or not. I think it's mandatory now. If you're curious about me, I did apply for it and obtained it before my interview but nobody asked for it.

    which consulate?
Are you sure they accept Indian Consulate Birth Certificate?
Do you want to post your details?
PD? Category? 140 approved date? PIII submission date?
What did they ask you in interview?

      Hi,
On the BC , I had enquired with Bombay Consulate if BC from Indian Consulate in San Francisco will hold good in lieu fo the BC from Municipality etc. But they denied. But it is surprised that you could sail thru' it. As I don't have BC or MC, I got them from Indian Consulate in SFO spending $32.00 plus gas and time. But I got a reply from them that it willnot help. I just wanted to avoid going India and get those certificates for consular processing.

      nurcut:
Did you get the MC from Indian Consulate also that you produced??

      Thanks

        Response

Mine was an EB2/RIR/AC140 case sent to Mumbai. My PD was July 22, 1999.

I had a birth certificate in Hindi for my wife and a notarized translation. I also took a sworn affidavit from both parents. Plus, I had the BC from the Consulate. The guy at Mumbai had no problems accepting the BC from the Consulate.

I did have the MC from the Consulate but I submitted the one that you get from the Civic Authorities in Mumbai.

I try to play it safe so I had all kinds of documentation with me.

The time/money/effort to obtain the certificates was not a concern for me but in retrospect, I should have gotten all the certificates at one go rather than going multiple times I even took the PCC from the Consulate and had my permanent address updated. Please exercise your discretion as some of all this is not totally necessary.
