  • Is it better to have a US born child for a returning parent?

We are in the US since 2 years on an assignment from India. Both of us are Indian citizens and would be returning back to India for good in March 2009.

We are expecting a baby by Nov 2008 and are in a dilemma whether to have the baby in the US or India, considering the fact that the child will grow in India during the whole of his/her academic period.

I have gone through many threads and got some information about very low NRI quota, higher donations / fees during the initial school admissions etc for a US born child.

How would the fees/ donations affect for the below 3 options we have ?

Option 1 : Have the child born in India.

Option 2 : Have the child born in the US, but apply for an Indian passport, while in the US. The child would have US birth certificate though and will have to surrender the Indian passport if he/she decides to travel to the US even for the first time in the future without a US visa. This would help the child to get into higher educations in India outside the NRI quota.
Option 3 : Have the child delivered in the US and obtain a US passport. This makes the child an NRI and not sure how would this affect the child's education in India w.r.t NRI quota.

Please advise. I would really appreciate your help in this regard.

    Thanks

Why would a birth location for a child mean more donation in a school? I've not heard of it. It could be true. May be it is a reason for the school to believe the parents are foreign returned and are rich and they demand more.

I've been out of India for quite some time and may be someone that has researched the options will add more.

I thought all the NRI quota etc existed for higher education institutes, has that crap crept into even primary education levels?

    NRI quota qualifications are below.
