I-797 Notice of Action

Hi Everyone,

I currently live in the UK with my US wife who is looking to sponsor me for a green card. We applied back in December and recently received a I-797 Notice of Action informing us that the petition was approved. I would like to know how long would the remaining process take and what it consists of?

Also am I required to move to the US as soon as I receive my green card or do I have a little time before making the move?

If you call the NVC, they will give you an estimate on how long it will take for them to enter your information in. That is the immediate next step. Once you complete the application there, it depends on if the NVC has further questions, and when you can be scheduled for an interview at your consulate.

I assume you are filing for an immigrant visa. You can travel to the U.S up until the immigrant visa expires. This expiration date should be based on the expiration of your medical exam paperwork. The greencard is issued after entry.
