  • Police Clearance Certificate

    Hello,

My husband was recently interviewed at the US Embassy in London. He changed his last name last year and added his surname to his name. He is originally from India. He made a new passport last year with his surname in London from High Commission of India and got a police clearance certificate from the Indian Consulate Office in London for his Immigrant visa interview for the US. The immigration officer who interviewed my husband asked him for a police clearance certificate for old name from India. My husband went to the Indian Consulate office in London to get a police clearance certificate with his old name and the consulate officer at the told him that since his old passport with the old name has been cancelled and expired, they cannot issue a police clearance certificate on and expired passport. But they can provide him with an affidavit of his old name and added surname with passport number on it.

My husband checked with the District police department in Indian if they can give him police clearance certificate on his old name and they said that they can issue a police clearance certificate on his old name from India. I just wanted to see if the US Embassy in London will accept a police clearance certificate made in India. Because I read on National Visa Center website that if a person is not currently living in their own county the PCC should be made through the High Commission of that country. In this case we cannot get any PCC from High Commission of India in London. Please advise us as your help is greatly appreciated.

Get a Police clearence from India on his old name & get one from London on his new name.

    More documentation the better.
