Received IL notification via email today.

    DQ Date: April 21, 2022
    Interview Date: Oct 26, 2022

Quick question. MIL's Indian passport validity would be 7 months, 29 days on the date of interview. Based on this forum discussion and rough estimate, we thought interview for her would be early next year so we were thinking of renewing the passport later this year but they scheduled it sooner (which is good).

The below note was from Mumbai Consulate page. Does the passport need to have 8+ months of validity at the time of interview? If that's the case we may need to rush to renew the passport and use new passport for medical exam and biometrics etc. hence asking this question. Please advice/share your insights.
    Thanks.
    Dear saba22
Congratulations on getting IL. It has come within 4 months which is very encourraging news for all our waiting friends.
Regarding the passport, you have just enough time to apply and get a new passport. After that only go for Medical and Biometrics.
Let me tell one thing to the forum:
Those whose passports have validity longer than 5 years on the day their visa (other than IR/CR category) is approved, are happier people because when they become eligible to apply for citizenship on a day 4 &1/2 years later, their passport will still be valid.
So saba22, there is no point in remaining in dilema "whether or not" to renew passport. Do not waste time and get the passport re-issued ASAP.
Another piece of information for all:
For citizenship one has to be LPR for 5 years. (3 years for IR/CR category) One can apply 6 months in advance of the completion of 5 / 3 years. And the the beauty is - this period is counted from the day your IV is approved.

In my case, since my culture report is not available yet, am not able to see it, but those whose reports are available may be able to access it here: It works for me, hopefully it works for others as well. Thanks! Just a note, need to login to see records by generating OTP using mobile number first.

Can you please share that link? I can't find it @msam04
      Dear Rinkujp and msam04
If sputum test samples are successfully collected by the medical facility, then ideally you got nothing to do except waiting and giving the process its due curing time. You cant do anything. To be curious about the outcome is human but here we have to give weightage to visa process and not the health aspect. God willing everything will be fine and good but by chance the report is not good then you concentrate on health first and then visa.

        Dear Geomac
Your reply is very helpful.. but pls advise how the new passport details are to be uploaded in traveldocs or can they just be emailed to the consulate. How about DS-260 which has the old passport info..

No I did not do anything special. Just waited like all of us here. I am not sure if there is anything that can influence the process under normal circumstances. Also I don't think last IL where up to Sept 2021. I saw here or somewhere else about IL sent out to applicant who were DQed in Jan 2022.
Couple of question, is your case is IR5 ? I know it’s Dumb question. What is your priority Date ? May be priority date effect. Just want to confirm and do not want other to doubt them self that they did something wrong on their file and it got delay.

Also this is out of curiosity that my parents are waiting to meet their grand son and their case is still in pending.

          • Dear GeoMac,

Is there anything I can do regarding IL, since I see that April 2022 DQ people received IL yesterday but my parents DQ date is January 2022 and still did not receive IL.

            Thanks,

            Shanaya

              Dear Cuper999
This question did arise in everybody's mind and it was discussed many times in past. Do not worry about new passport. You need not send any email to consulate.
When you go for Medical and Biometrics, use your new passport and at the interview carry your old passport alongwith your new passport. Consular officer are intelligent enough to know why you have new passport. Be careful to carry both passports at interview. And if you want, you can upload the photocopies of your new passport on your CEAC account.

Best option would be call them or use ASKNVC for the update.

Thank you GeoMac, very helpful. Once we get the new passport, do you think we need to get another police clearance certificate using new passport information?

The calling number is not working after covid and email takes two months for their response.

                          • Hello,
I received the IL for my mother on Aug 30th for an interview on October, 11th 2022. In the interview letter, I see "Additional Applicants" with no a# or interview data attached to it. But I see my name and my father's name (who passed away and I contacted NVC a few months ago to nullify his part of the application) I am confused why my name is part of the additional applicants.

Secondly, when I go to ustraveldocs.com to schedule biometrics, I am being asked to schedule a "Consular Interview" with some dates. If I select one of the dates, it makes me schedule an appointment at the mumbai consulate (which is strange). I was expecting that it will send me to a VAC in Chennai (where the beneficiary is) to schedule this appointment. I have attached a few screenshots on what I am seeing. Has anyone hit this issue before?

                            Additional details:
My mother has a new passport now. The DS-260 was filed with old passport. I assumed that we have to use the same (old passport) while registering on ustraveldocs.com and then update the DS-260 at the interview. Am I right with this assumption?

                            Thanks,
