wanted 2 clarifications,at the point of entry,is there a separate Que for immigrant visa category?
Can we travel back to India soon after we receive the Green card?
        Dear sapnaanagol,
A lot of homework is needed before departure. At the POE, you should proceed to landed immigrant counter / Green card. The Que is generally lesser there. I think I already answered the other question. You can come and go as you please, after getting the Permanent Resident card. Just keep in mind that your cumulative stay outside USA should always be less than six months in a Calendar year. My suggestion is to enter USA with a one way ticket. Then you have the option of returning as you please. Best wishes.

I am US citizen and will be traveling with my mother who will be traveling first time on the immigrant visa. Do they allow someone like me to accompany the new immigrant or my mother has to go through the immigration on her own?

Normally family members go together to immigration counter. There were no separate immigration counters for US citizen and Green Card holders at LA airport (LAX) where I landed. All those counters were catering to both category. For visitors, there was a separate section. I believe your mother and you can go together.

              Dear maneeshsah,

Good to hear that your mom and you are travelling together to USA. This would be a memorable journey. Culmination point of all the heartburns that one has gone through in this journey to the Green Card. As mentioned by AS45, you can go together to the immigration counter. Families from India invariably report at the immigration counter together. At the POE generally they ask very general questions, like with whom would you stay, what is the address at which you will get your SSN and Green card. I would suggest that you let your mom respond to the questions unless there is a language issue. Best wishes for a smooth sailing through the POE.

                  Dear Forparents96,
Surprised to hear that the SSN is taking such a long time. Most of us got the SSN in less than 10 days of entering USA. Permanent Resident cards can take easily three months, even more as posted in this forum by Raj2022. This delay certainly calls for contacting the SSN people. Best wishes.

                    Dear abhishekhawat,
Techinically speaking, one does not require a health insurance to enter USA. But whenever we have travelled to USA, even for smaller visit of 35 days, we have always taken a travel insurance. This is desirable in case of emergencies.

                            Dear sapnaanagol,
I am pretty sure that you may not be allowed to open a bank account with the Indian passport. Some banks can be very strict. To my understanding the SSN is a must. Plus you need proof of address. If you have opened a NRO account, take a statement which must have your US address with full address with pin code etc. Passport will be accepted as an identity proof. SSN will prove your landed Immigrant status. My bank was particularly fussy and my credentials were accepted only after I got the Permanent Resident card. Maybe GeoMac may want to add something. Best wishes for smooth entry to USA.

                              Dear vapIR5,
There is nothing you need to do now. You, rightly said that for DS260 cannot be edited. Once you get your IL you will have to register and you can enter the new data at that time. Best wishes for the interview call.

So you need to wait to get SSN.. Once you get that you can keep mail in which came as one address proof.. And after getting SSN, you can try to get state ID.. so to open bank account you need 2 proof.. ONe will be SSN card / mail (Whre your entire name and address will be mentioned) and state ID.
