    Hi,
Today my wife and myself were visited SSA office (Our PoE is on 14th Oct) here in Virginia after 3 weeks as per the instructions leaflet of US Consulate. SSA officer checked our status but there is no update in SSN records though we have selected in DS 260 form. So, he advised to submit an application in fresh so that he will register then and there itself. So we did the same as advised. He gave us an acknowledment for the same said that SSN will reach you within two weeks time. The whole process took one hour.
    Dear members,
We have received our SSN cards today by USPostal Service. As said by SSN office, we have received the same much before the time. Thanks to everyone for giving guidance in this regard.

Heartiest Congratulations. What about the permanent resident card (GC). What is the update on the website?

Thank you. I thought I need to pay so let me pay it while I am off from work do not forget to do it later. I know I should not have rushed. I found the Alien number in the visa interview letter and proceed from there. Thank You so much for providing the link. I have checked the status now and it shows fees paid. Thank you for the information. I am hoping you are getting adjusted to your life in the US. What do you suggest to process for social security application? Thanks in advance!
        Dear sweta85,
sorry for the delay in responding to your post. I was a little busy. By God’s Grace we both are doing well. There is really nothing to adjust, as this happens to be my 25th visit abroad , 20 to USA and 5 to Canada (where I worked as a Visiting Professor).
You have do nothing about the SSN. During the filing of DS-260, at one place in that form, you have to respond to a question about the SSN. So the SSN will in most cases will arrive in 10 to 12 days after the arrival of the beneficiary.
Your mom would have received the passport with the Visa stamp by now.
        Best wishes.

Please see my earlier post no. 2952 at page 197 for US immigration at Abu Dabhi Airport.
In addition, there is separate line for Wheel chair passengers at Immigration counter. A separate sheet of paper be provide to your mom with details like her name, passport no., US address and phone no., and your details like your name, designation and place of work etc., so that she will be able to provide the same to immigration officer. She can also ask for Hindi speaking wheel chair person at Abu Dabhi airport. Best wishes.

Your queries have been very nicely answered by Atmakur61. The immigration counters at Abudhabi, for the USA flight will be manned by US people. You will have the option of asking for an interpreter. If you have opted for a wheel chair, the responsibility will be on the airlines to maneuver the passenger to the right terminal and the right immigration counter. The wheel chair passéngers get priority over the other passengers at each step, immigration, security and boarding. Relax, Etihad is a good airline and takes good care of their passengers. Best wishes for your mom’s travel to USA.
AlienKanpur Thank you very much. It is very reassuring. I appreciate all your input. thanks once agian.

Oh wow, then there is nothing to adjust. I am impressed with your travel history. my mom received her passport today. on her visa stamp, it says Upon endorsement service as temporary I-551 evidencing permanent residence for 1 year. Does it mean she will receive a temporary green card, not a permanent green card? I have checked my mom's DS 260 and I have responded yes to SSN, thank god. Thanks for all your help

                      Dear sweta85
The statement at the bottom of visa stamp reads like this? UPON ENDORSEMENT SERVES AS TEMPORARY I- 551 EVIDENCING PERMANENT RESIDENCE FOR 1 YEAR.
This means that in case the Permanent Residence card is delayed for any reasons, the visa stamp will serve as permanent Residence I-551 i.e. Green Card. The moment the Green Card comes in your hand, the visa stamp becomes of no importance. Actually the Green card takes 90 days to arrive.(practically it comes much earlier) In abscence of physical GC, you can do other processes like job hunt, interview, drivers temporary permit etc. For that you might need to show the authority that you are in America on green card. The visa stamp will serve as temporary GC.

                      • I am the petitioner for my parent's GC and is also a US citizen. I recently changed address and reported it via Form I-865, Sponsor’s Notice of Change of Address.
Wanted to check if this is sufficient or if I need to submit AR-11. My understanding is AR-11 is for Green Card holders to update the address. Any guidance is highly appreciated.

                          Dear sweta85,
Our senior member dear GeoMac has already responded to your query, very nicely. Once your mom enters USA, within 90 days she will get the “Permanent Resident Card”. This will be valid for 10 years from the day your mom enters USA. SSN generally comes in 10-12 days. When is your mom entering. Best wishes.

                            Dear anvinjoe,
‘Good that you have updated your address. That is all that needs to be done right now. Your parents will get one more chance to verify the address, after they receive the IL. As of now, the IL can be expected about one year after the DQ date. It might be a little earlier if you are lucky. Best wishes.

                                Dear Nuzi,
Congrats, for the medical test for your mom. She must have been handed over a two page print out. If the x-ray is not clear, then they advise sputum test. This is done immediately. In your case, to my understanding all is very clear. Prepare for the interview now. Best wishes.
