Happy holidays to your family & you!
I plan to work for few more years. Will start the search soon.
Kindly let me know if you have any directions for me.

if there is a "sticky" or a resource that lists out civil documents that parents from India need to have- if someone could point me to that I would appreciate it.

I have been following this forum for the past few months and first off want to convey my sincere gratitude to GeoMac, AlienKanpur, sapnaanagol, nakubo, AS45, asg1957, Atmakur61 for helpful suggestions and information.
My father recently got his visa (IR5) and we are planning on travelling to the US in early January. He is 82 years old and has a preexisting heart condition (not recent but happened in 2010). Could someone kindly let me know of any travel/visitor's insurance that I can buy that would cover preexisting heart condition? I don't mind higher premiums so long as it genuinely covers what it promises.
Thank you all.

Hi All, My mother had an Interview in Mumbai consulate on Nov 18, 2022. She is currently in US visiting us so she couldn't attend the interview. I am trying to reschedule the interview for some time next year. When I send an email to support in India, they asked me to do the following.
1. Login to your profile
2. Click on “New Application/Schedule appointment” tab and perform the steps till you reach step#7
3. At step#7 click on “Yes”. Select “Yes” for Category-3
4. Select the document delivery location from the drop-down list and proceed further
But if i follow that procedure, I only get the option of picking the date for VAC (bio metric). NO Immigration Visa Interview date.
I dont even see a Category-3 in step # 7
In step 3 if I select Embassy/Consulate Appointments (3rd option) instead of 1st option (immigraion Visa), i will get an option for interview. But it always say no interview date.
Questions:
Will NVC will reschedule the Immigration (IR5 -Parents of US Citizen) for me?
So far no communication from NVC or Consulate for missed interview. Should I get an email from them?
Whats the correct step to reschedule the interview once you miss the original date?
Other option we have is the Adjustment of Status (AoS). She is in US more than 90 days now. Any risk in that?

During the process of re-schedulling consular interview, you will come across a step for VAC appointment. Take an appointment of a distant date and carry on. You will get step for visa interview. After getting convenient interview date, you can change the VAC date in accordance with visa interview date.
If you do Adjustment of Status, your fees and DS260 form will be lost. Also I have no idea whether it will have any impact of not attending visa interview in mumbai. Better ask any immigration lawyer in your state.

This is the step I am following. Step-1 Immigrant Visa--- Step-2 ----State in India -Kerala--- Step 3--language- Again step 3- first option. All Immigrant or Diversity option.. Then pick IR5 and eventually it reached VAC appointment and it stops there.
Is that the right steps?
3rd steps 3rd option isEmbassy/Consulate Appointments
These options are intended only for eligible applicants who have received written notification from the U.S. Embassy or Consulate that they must schedule an appointment (except SB-1 appointments).
If i chose 3rd option, Next step you get an option to pick re-interviews.( IV Expired Visa/Waiver Received/Oath/Reinterviews)
But i tried that many times and never get date for interview.
Opened several cases with embassy and always get some standard unhelpful replies.

Thank you GeoMac this is what I am finding too - there seems to be no reliable looking policy for preexisting conditions. Seems like the best option is to take some basic coverage and then apply through the healthcare exchange - they told me that they don't need SSN but only a date of entry - we can provide the SSN later. This is also what I gathered from a previous post by nakubo

Dear All,
Thank you for all your guidance. My parents arrived in the US earlier this month. They traveled by Air France, and it was a pretty uneventful journey -- so all went well without any hiccups.
I have changed address since the time of the original application, so thought of visiting the local Social Security office here. They neither helped me update the address, nor provided me any information about the address they had on file where the SSN cards would be sent out. It is likely they have sent my father's card to the old address, since they said it had been processed almost a week ago, and we have not received it yet. For my mother, they do not even see any SSN application in the system. This was surprising to me, in that my father's SSN card has already been dispatched, while they had no clue about my mother's SSN. In your cases, did you receive the SSN cards for yourself and spouse around the same times (1-2 days here or there), or separated by longer durations ?
Thanks a lot.Last edited by IR5user; 11-29-2022, 03:12 AM.
