Dear reshmadparikh,
As mentioned by the website, and also by you, the medical needs to be done at least 7 days prior to the interview. I wonder why the Mumbai and Ahmadabad clinics have a 10 day restriction. I had my medical at Delhi on May 11 and my interview was on June 10. The only point to keep in mind is that the validity of the medical test is six months. One has to enter US before the expiry of the medical. Best wishes.

Congratulations on your parents successful interview and thanks for sharing the details. I have one follow-up question. You mentioned that you advised your parents to get the required vaccines beforehand and those documents were accepted by the Doctor during medical exam. I am planning to do the same for my mother in future. I was wondering what type of documents your parents obtained when they received the vaccines. I am asking this because, usually when I get a vaccine in US, they provide you a printed certificate with name/dob/date/place/generic name of vaccine. However, in small towns in India, vaccines are mostly taken from local pharmacies or Doctor offices, so the only document will probably be the Doctor's prescription mentioning the details in handwriting. I am worried if the medical exam centers will accept that kind of handwritten document at all or will they ask her to take the vaccines from them again. That is why thought to ask you.
Best wishes.
My parents got their vaccines from a local doctor in Delhi who gave them the documentation on his printed prescription pad that showed his name and place of practice. The doctor did scribble their names by hand, as well as their age and type of vaccine given as well as the date. Besides that, he also affixed a vaccine batch code sticker that shows the name and batch number of the vaccine provided. That was considered sufficient for the medical exam to meet the requirements. Hope that helps.

Hello Everyone,
We are preparing for my fathers interview in Feb. Couple of questions would appreciate help:
1-Medical: If other than COVID vaccine, there is no record of any other vaccination like polio etc., what do they do?
2-I havee taken the VAC biometric appointment through the website by creating an account but I don’t see the actual consular interview listed on the dashboard . is this normal?
Thanks

Hello, I am reaching out for some help regarding rescheduling my mom's immigrant visa interview. She is DQed and her visa interview is scheduled at the Mumbai embassy for Jan 31st, 2023. We would like to push out the interview by a few months and I have contacted the visa scheduling team through email and phone but their response has been that they can't reschedule the interview but asked us to wait till the interview date has passed after which we will be eligible to reschedule. The reason we want to push the date further is because my mom just returned from the US (Using B1/B2 visa) and would want to wait at least for a year before traveling back to the US. If she gets the visa done in Jan 2023, she would have to travel within 6 months. Can anyone help and advise on what can be done in this situation?

I strongly feel that the interview should not be rescheduled. First thing, which you have already stated is that you can reschedule only after the due date has gone by. Secondly, getting a slot is generally not easy. It could be way down. Also please remember that your mom has got to get used to the idea, that in any given calendar year she cannot stay out of the US for more than six months, in case she intends to maintain the landed immigrant status. I would suggest that schedule the medical for January 20 or around. In case there are no issues with the medical, then she would be eligible to enter into USA upto Mid July. To me this is the best course of action. Best wishes.

Dear Rahul57
1. Most of us in the IR5 category do not have any vaccinations record. During the medical examination, the doctor will prescribe upto four vaccines. These will be available right there. Some 7500 rupees will be charged. These vaccines can have some minor side effects like low grade fever and body ache apart from the pain at the site of the vaccines.
2. You are right. The actual date of interview will not be displayed on the dashboard. This is perfectly normal.
Best wishes for a successful adjudication of the immigration petition.Last edited by AlienKanpur; 01-01-2023, 04:25 PM.

I strongly agree with AlienKanpur. I had received interview appointment for September 2022 while I had just arrived on a visit to USA. I tried to postpone the interview date by calling helpline numbers and writing multiple emails as suggested by them. But there was no proper resolution and ultimately I cut short my visit to complete the interview. Your mother can delay arrival by six months after IR5 visa and can return back to India for about 6 months after getting green card i.e.about 2 months later. Best wishes.

I would rather suggest your mom should attend the Jan 31st 2023 interview and get the visa. If everything goes well health wise, the visa stamp will be dated 31st Jan 2023, which means she can travel in the end of July 2023. If my belief is true, her citizenship eligibility period of five years will start from the date the visa is stamped. Once she enters the US and gets her GC she can fly back to India and stay for more time.
Second option is that, that you reschedule her interview to a date in June/July23 and thus she can fly to US in Dec/Jan24. But be careful the circumstances can change. COVID pandemic delayed all cases by almost an year. Take the example of VISITOR visa seekers who have paid full fees back in March 2020 are yet to get their visa interview which will be probably in DEC 23, forget about the fresh visitor visa applications.Last edited by GeoMac; 01-02-2023, 08:43 PM.

My parent's medical is scheduled for this Friday at Surat. Do they provide any physical report, or they sent everything directly to US embassy in Mumbai?
Also, they do not have any prior vaccination record, so what kind of additional vaccines are expected at their medical apt?

Best wishes for the medical of your parents at Surat. Please ask them to carry any prescriptions if they take any prescription medicines. Also carry the COVID vaccination certificate. After completion of the medical, if it is all clear they may provide a two page summary/information sheet (Delhi centre gives for sure along with a CD, not certain about the Surat centre). In case there is any issue with the chest X-ray then the sputum test will be required. Your parents will be informed for the subsequent course of action. In all cases the entire medical reports are uploaded on the consulate website. In general for senior citizens they will prescribe 4 different vaccines. Which can be purchased and taken immediately. For the details of the vaccines you can see my post number 1541 of May 12, 2022. Best wishes Please keep the forum updated.Last edited by AlienKanpur; 01-03-2023, 05:32 PM.
