Do they change cases status before sending out Interview Letter ?
      Hey no,

The status will change after you receive an interview.

If the interview goes well, will they keep the passports and ask them to submit PCC via dropbox in Hyderabad?

If they keep my parents passports, can they still get PCC certificate from passport office? Is original passport mandatory for PCC process?

Anyone with experience in this area? Your answers are appreciated.d
Dear rajssum, A little dicey situation. After the VISA interview, if all is well except the PCC, then the Consulate will hold the passports and the PCC will have to be submitted at any VAC. However for a fresh PCC the passport office needs the Passport. I think we have not seen this kind of situation in this forum so far. Who knows they may accept the 1.5 year old PCC. In case a fresh PCC is required, my opinion is that your parents can request the officer at the Consulate to return the passports and then these can be submitted at the VAC along with the PCC. I don't think you are expected to put these things in a drop box. My sister had gone to the VAC in Delhi and personally handed over the PCC.
Best wishes for the Interview tomorrow. Keep the forum informed, specially about this new scenario.

My lawyer told me due to the pandemic they are now accepting PCC for 2 years from the date it was issued so I guess it will be fine.

            Dear rajssum,
Without shedding any tears on wasted time, now let us hope for the best.
I remember one incidence probably in January, somebody went with an expired PCC but did not face any problem, got entry in to consulate and got the visa too. What I suggest, your parents may carry along the print out of a page of the uscis website, in which it is written that the validity of PCC is two years. They can also carry the Passport office appointment letter along AND if needed then only produce these papers. Do not volunteer to unveil these papers unless needed.
Secondly get passport copies attested by a notary. PSK/Passport office may agree to process PCC on notarised copies in special case as your parents’ Passport is equally important to be presented in either offices.

Thanks a lot for your help. One more question.

I was guided by friend to add household member for applications. I added my wife’s information and upload document for my father’s application and it was approved with current status DQ @ dec 11, 2020 while in my mother’s application, I added household member but application was DQ before I upload documents for added household member.

Should I upload documents for added household member or leave it as it is and wait considering status is DQ.

I see on the tracker that most of the people up to DQ date of December 18, 2020 has already been schedule. I would suggest you start looking into it in detail as to why you have not received it yet.

I was able to add mine - by adding a row and then your information. I am not sure who is the owner of the sheet but its very helpful tracker to be prepared.
Based on History (tracker), I was/am expecting interview notification for my case to be around this week or next. Therefore, I was able to move forward and obtain PCC last month to take advantage of time.

Also, you only really receive 2 to 3 week of notice between schedule date and notification date.

                              • Parents interview successful and got approval of immigration visa today

                                Parents applied in June 2019
                                DQ November 2020
Received IL on March 15th 2022 for interview date of April 7 2022/ Mumbai
Initially had trouble with Ustravel docs site and was locked out for 72 hours before we got the biometrics appointment. We couldn't see the dates available before the interview date initially
Able to get finger print /VAC on March 21st
PCC was obtained in Aug 2020 , around 1.5 years old. Us travel docs support email confirmed PCC is valid for 2 years.
Earliest PCC appointment in Hyderabad was April 13th / after interview date, so we couldn't get the fresh PCC
                                Medical completed March 24th
No birth certificates for both parents, instead took notarized affidavits from older siblings confirming their birthdates and marriage. We initiated birth certificates process with non trace certificates but that may take few more weeks or months
We had concern above for PCC validity and what if consulate keeps passports.

                                Interview notes
                                • usual initial collection of documents by Indian officer. We requested interview in Telugu
                                • Around 3 hour wait
                                • Very short interview. The only question they asked about was overstay my parents had. We had filed for extension of stay each time. They asked how many times they overstayed or applied for extension. My moms visitor visa got cancelled in 2019 after she over stayed and travelled back to India pending extension application. Her visa got cancelled immediately the next day after she landed in INDIA. Her visa extension letter was received couple of months later.
                                • Parents showed approved extension letters and answered number of times they over stayed/applied extension.
                                • Us officer went back and confirmed and mentioned the details were correct and everything looks good
                                • We got the usual pay uscis $220 and standard letter stating passports to be collected after 3-4 business days
                                • no mention of needing new PCC etc. they seem to have accepted 1.5 year old PCC
I know number of us go through this painful process. Please let me know if you have any questions. I can answer to the best of my knowledge. Thank you for the help!
