Is Mumbai consulate scheduling interviews for IR5 (Parent of a U.S. citizen)

Good info GeoMac. No harm in getting the PCC now. I shall myself get it towards the end of March this year. You said it rightly, it is a matter of Rs. 500 only (per person). Any info on Canadian PCC. I have lived in Canada for straight 16 months during 1986-87. Subsequently I visited Canada every year for almost 3 moths during summers. We have been DQ without the Canadian PCC. Can there be an issue?

Dear AlienKanpur, the PCC from other country is probably saught by NVC, only if you have stayed in any other country for more than a year at a stretch within last 10 years. I stayed in middle east for some years way back in eighties, but I got my DQ. Actually, when we fill up the forms (i130 or DS260) they ask the records of stay in other country during last 10 years only and so we do not provide the info prior to 10 years. And if by chance we provided that info. then also the system would ignor that and wont take it on records. Still it is better to refer to the appropriet page in USCIS or NVC info for docs requirements.

Dear L2022, There is hardly anything that we can do. May be there are many cases, but not on the forum. The only way NVC listens is through litigation. I understand that lots of litigations, in this connection. are pending in the US courts and continue to pile up. Let us hope and pray that things will move faster in the coming month. My parents finished IV at Bombay consulate on Feb4. Appt was at 930am and out at 1130am. Officer asked some simple questions like how many times you have been to US, what does your son do, are you excited to be immigrating to US. The original affidavits that were in lieu of my parent's BC were in my possession prior to IV. I had to courier them to my parents at the last minute paying $100. Please make sure to not get into that situation. All affidavits that you submitted during the application process (I130 etc) should be with your parents when they go for the IV.

Question on getting the card card - My parents got the immigrant visa stamped on the passport by the consulate. Following that I paid the $220 per applicant to the USCIS to get the GC. Any idea when the GC will arrive? Website says "within 90 days", but wondering what's the trending timeline.

I just found this forum and I must say this has been very informative. Thanks to all the members for that. My parents applications were DQ'd in May 2021. Since then nothing has happened. I have raised inquiry with NVC and got a standard reply. I called Mumbai consulate and they said application is still with NVC. When I call NVC I experience a long wait and could not talk to them. PCC has expired and my parents are in process of acquiring a new one as many of you suggested. Do I need to do anything from my side as the next step other than waiting for NVC to transfer the case to Mumbai and schedule an interview?

Reading this forum I see that applications DQ'ed in Aug 2020 are still waiting for interview letter/dates. I have no clue how long this will take from here. Any replies/suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Continue to monitor this forum . You will get an idea soon when the interview fro DQ 2021 could be expected.
Once you start getting a whiff of it, please apply for your parents PCC ONE MONTH IN ADVANCE.
It takes 21 to 24days to arrive, from application process to home delivery.

Dear Surendrasinh, What we have learnt from the conversations in this forum, is that, that somebody with DQ date 21st August 2020 received email for interview. So be otimistic and keep on following this forum. All the best. If you check visa statistics on NVC site, you can estimate your probable interview time.

Hello, Members please post something. It is quite natural that those who got their or their parent’s interview letters are now on their toes running around for Medical and Biometrics and gathering documents, however please find some time to update the info. so that the people in waiting can also be prepared when their turn comes.

To, GeoMac :- Sir, post the arrival of the NVC email life tends to get very busy in fact hectic. For starters you :-
1) Register yourself for the appointments of your Medicals and your Biometrics on the site provided in your interview letter.
2) Most importantly , go through the US Consulate checklist and keep two folders for each of your parent. First is the Original folder and the second folder are the photocopies of each of the document which is in the first folder. Whichever document the Officer wants and asks for :- pull out from the second folder and give it.
3) Typing out the appointment form for the Medicals is a bit of a tough task. When you come to the actual picking of the appointment date and time, request for an appointment for them together. Sometimes { it happened in our case } our passports, Covid certificate could not be uploaded, no matter how many times I tried. There is a section called " COMMENTS " :- IN THAT COLUMN I WROTE, " UNABLE TO UPLOAD, HAVE ALL ORIGINALS WITH ME ".
There is also a " tick box " which you can select, if you are not able to upload your documents.
4) For the Biometrics it is the KBC show. Fastest finger first. By the time you fill up the details and come to the point where the timings and the dates available at the Mumbai or any other Consulate pop up , you have to see at which time more slots are available.
( Consulate where you want to do your Biometrics, can be selected from the drop down menu, which is quite tiny, so be careful . It's on the top .)
I will give you my example.. I selected my wife's biometric date and time at the Mumbai Consulate. There were six slots available for the 2.00 PM appointment. I quickly grabbed that and immediately went on to take the same slot for me. It took me about 11 minutes from the time that I had selected the slot for my wife. Guess what ? By the time I reached that page, just one slot was remaining and by the Grace of the Almighty, I grabbed it.
Bottom line, what I am trying to imply to all is be as quick as you can in doing your online form filling, once you receive your Interview email from the NVC.

When we stand up before the counter / window for interview by American Officer , is there any table or board or any other facility where we can lay down our bulky files/papers to sort out or we have to hold all files in our hands and then pick any paper to produce before the Officer .
Secondly , what is the size of opening through which we can push photo album or any bunch of papers inside ?

To, Ivusagc :- Sir, your parents are not too far away from the interview date. I would say a maximum of three months. Suggest very strongly you start the new PCC process immediately.
It takes almost a month from the day you visit the passport Office for your PCC; and the actual delivery of the same at your parent's home.
So if you do it now, your PCC validity will be at least 9 months on the day your parents actually go for the Visa Interview.

To, SG2020 :- I feel there is no need to carry bulky documents. In fact just take what they have asked you for. In my case they asked me for some marriage photos { I was married in 1975 }. I have taken 5 photos and 12 documents as per the US Consulate list.
Why burden yourself with more, when not needed.
So, relax and read the US Consulate , Mumbai list calmly and carefully.

Dear Gharya54, Thank you very much for all the descriptive and very useful information. This will definitely improve our performance in selecting the slots. I will tell you what we did in case of my daughter’s visa interview some years ago. Keep statutory info like Name, family name, DoB, PP No. Address, etc. typed on a word document and copy paste line by line where ever needed.
I understand how hectic becomes the situation once you receive visa call. Over and above all visa related chores, you have other worries like booking travel to Mumbai and back and hotel stay etc.
In my case, so many other things like advance payments to house tax, electricity, insurance (travel insurance not needed for immigrants now) broadband etc. a number of things. Closing your house means another big headache. Packing gadgets, covering electronics, furniture, linen, sealing some cabinets to save from dust, bank and locker works, housekeeper. And finally shopping and packing. Oh!! leaves you really crazy.
