Is Mumbai consulate scheduling interviews for IR5 (Parent of a U.S. citizen)

NVC sends you the dates for consular interview. It is important that you book a biometrics appt at VAC before attending it. If not, your consular interview will not take place.

Then you've to book two interviews, one for VAC and one for consular. Try changing the dates for VAC until you get a date for consular interview.

The following is for these 2 situations
1) You've to book consular interview alone separately because you missed the original appointment
2) You've completed VAC (biometrics) and couldn't find a date for consular

When you try to book a consular interview (follow the right steps), you will first see selection of a date for VAC. Even though you have already completed biometrics at VAC, just pick a farthest date, and click next. Then it'll show you a calendar for selecting consular interview date. Select and save. You'll have two dates, one for VAC and one for consular. You can just ignore the vac date or attend and tell them that you've already done it.

If you picked a date for vac and couldn't find a date for consular, then go back and pick a different VAC date, click next to pick consular date. Keep trying different vac dates until you find a slot for consular.


There is no way to book consular date alone. This is the way the system operates.

Finally on 7/7 one parent on Ready to AP hope soon will be Issued.

Thank you for sharing the below. When going through CGI Website, can you exactly let me know how you went about selecting an appointment? I would be a huge help for me! Did you have to go through picking up the VAC appointment again? or was it directly the counselor interview? Also, when your mother went for the interview, what paper work did she show ? Because you have to show an interview letter from NVC, thus im confused as to what she showed that they let her in?

I have a question. my mother's document qualifies on 2 July 2022 whereas, my father's documents are still under review and maybe the document will qualify in August. so my question is whether my mother will get her interview first or my mum and dad will get interview together on the same date?

Look at the priority date of the petition of both, your dad and mom, If the date of approval of both the petitions is same then both of them will be called for interview together no matter the DQD are different. However, I can not say this for sure but we have observed this happening in past few months.

Dear Kaurjasleen8,
No body knows when the IL will be sent out. As per the prevailing pattern, people who were Documentary Qualified in June/ July 2021, are expected to get their interviews scheduled in August this year. So a wild extrapolation will imply that your parents can expect the interview letter (IL) sometime in April/May 23. Best wishes.

Mandatory: RT PCR is MUST and should be within 24 hours from date and time of journey for US irrespective of your Indian vaccination status.

Journey Day @ Hyd : Boarding
Emirates Airlines : Hyderabad to SFO via Dubai.

• Checked Covid full Vaccination certificate + RT PCR report within 24 hours MUST.
  • Again Verified both certificates before check in.

Journey Day @ SFO : Landed

• Finally reached, at immigration officer (IO) queue.
• Immigration Officer 1: Interview
  • Took bio metrics, Iris and fingerprints of both hands.
  • Asked some questions.
    • Who is here for you.
    • Where are you going?
    • With whom do you stay?
    • When was your last visit to US?
    • How much period did you stay?
    • Whether your son was married?
    • How many children does your son have?
• IO 1 sent us to IO 2. Waited for his call or queue.
• Immigration Officer 2: Interview
  • Waiting Period : 20 minutes
• Handed over passports to IO 2.
• Took latest US residing address.
• IO 2, went inside and then came back, returned Passports.
• IO 2, greeted: Welcome to US
• Now on wards, you are US permanent resident and authorized to work in US.
• After interview, informed Green Card will be sent within 1 week to the local address.

Observations:

• Received Apollo RT PCR report within 7 hours from sample collection, charged 350 INR.
• For Elders/Seniors always opt for wheelchair .
  • Dubai International Airport is very long and busy. The wheel chair staff carried to each point and got the transit security check done. The process took more than 2 hrs. For us transit duration is less.
  • At SFO Airport, wheelchair staff, carried us through Immigration and to luggage belt, where our luggage is grounded. Took our luggage via customs. Then they left us at outside gate.
  • Wheel chair staff are courteous and helpful in both Dubai and US.
  • Wheel Chair Staff makes movement very comfortable without any inquiry.

Green Card Observation ( after 20 days):

• Within 10 days, Parent/female received SSN Number from the date of arrival.
• Parent/Male not yet received SSN Number even after 20 days so contacted SSN but no information, then approached local Social Security office.
  • Again took Biometrics, Passport and Visa Copy then cross verified.
  • Registered and informed, will be receiving within 3 weeks.
• Finally received SSN after 10 days.
• Both Parents still waiting for Green Cards, may take 3-6 months.
• Then registered for State ID’s as per California Laws.

Hi, just wanted to follow up on physical GC card for your parents. Did they receive it yet? I am trying to understand how long it takes to get the card. Also, my understanding is they cannot leave US until they get the physical card, right? Any insight will be helpful.
