The most crucial test for senior citizens happens to be X-ray of the lungs. The Lungs need to be absolutely clear. In case there is any shadow / cloudy haze in the x-ray then they will prescribe a sputam test. I wonder if something can be done about this. May be sapnaanagol who is a Doctor can advise if one can take some precautionary measures /medicines, to ensure that the lungs are clear.
Sputam test causes the process to be delayed by atleast two months. As a side effect one is certain to miss the scheduled interview date. Rescheduling of the interview is one big hassle. I wonder if someone in the forum has succeeded in rescheduling the interview. GeoMac had given an elaborate step by step algorithm to do this. I hope that it will work.
    Best wishes
I advised my DIL to get a chest Xray about 6 months ago and keep a a copy. This way the new X-Ray can be compared with old X-Ray and if there is no change over several months, the need for further testing can be avoided. Alternatively, if there is any shadow in earlier X-Ray, sputum test can be obtained through a reputed (may be one of the approved) institutions. This would allow medical examiner would be more comfortable giving clearance. (I am a cardiologist in USA).
    Regards.

      Dear Krishan8
The idea is excellent. Get X-ray chest done at the same facility where your DIL has to go for “visa medical” Normally the Medical officers do not approve the other reports but for reference they may consider the old report of their own institute. This is going to be needed if ever the X-ray shows any indication of fresh or old koch’s lesion.

      • Hello All, Any recommendation for medical exams: My parents have to fly to any place and wonder if someone has a good or bad experience. Do you also recommend getting the sputum test ahead to avoid delays as I continue to see those cases?

Thanks for the above post, this def gives us some sense of direction on how to proceed after sputum results are negative. I have the following questions:

          1. thinknam - which email address did you email the service desk? and after receiving the results, did you email them right away or waited for sometime weeks/months?
          2. rmalik - After your mother results come in May, when did you get consulate email to reschedule for interview? What number did you call the helpdesk / email from helpdesk (similar to above question).

My mother-in-laws visa got approved and she received passport everything, but father in law had to do sputum test. We are still waiting for his results - hoping it comes out negative, then we have to proceed with the next steps of rescheduling.

Any guidance from all members in this situation is highly appreciated!!

          Thanks,
          A.
My mother got tested in May and results came in July and I contacted the hospital. I got an email from consulate after 10 days of getting the results. But now I have scheduled the VAC interview as well which I should have not as they have already done it and I am not getting any answers from embassy. I will have to ask them to skip the VAC and go for consulate interview. I am locked out since I have tried many times on cgi website. Phone support is not helpful, they always ask to send an email and email also is not clear sometimes. Email is [email protected], people on call always ask to send an email, they don't have answers.

Since our friend Senior Member AlienKanpur mentioned my earlier post, it has become my moral duty to post it again in the interest of all.⬇️

THIS INFO WILL HELP THOSE WHO HAVE TO RE-SCHEDULE THE CONSULAR INTERVIEW APPOINTMENT.

NVC sends you the dates for consular interview. It is important that you book a biometrics appt at VAC before attending it. If not, your consular interview will not take place.

Then you've to book two interviews, one for VAC and one for consular. Try changing the dates for VAC until you get a date for consular interview.

The following is for these 2 situations
            1) You've to book consular interview alone separately because you missed the original appointment
            2) You've completed VAC (biometrics) and couldn't find a date for consular
            -----------------

When you try to book a consular interview (follow the right steps), you will first see selection of a date for VAC. Even though you have already completed biometrics at VAC, just pick a farthest date, and click next. Then it'll show you a calendar for selecting consular interview date. Select and save. You'll have two dates, one for VAC and one for consular. You can just ignore the vac date or attend and tell them that you've already done it.

If you picked a date for vac and couldn't find a date for consular, then go back and pick a different VAC date, click next to pick consular date. Keep trying different vac dates until you find a slot for consular.

There is no way to book consular date alone. This is the way the system operates.
GeoMac, Do you know whoever posted this info, end up going for VAC? Did they ask in consulate if they already had VAC or they just know internally through their systems

I also took the VAC appointment for my mother but chose not to go as she went to biometrics just right after her medical tests (then wait for sputum results). She will go to the consular one directly. Will see what happens

I emailed about 5/6 days after the test results. Here is the format I wrote -

"Please find the 1. attached document that we received from the medical facility on xx/xx/xxxx on canceling the consular interview on xx/xx/xxxx and 2. document from the medical facility on xx/xx/xx about completing the additional medical tests and sending the results to DoS (US Department of State).

Can I please get a new date for a consular interview for her? She has already completed her biometrics."

                • There are several queries regarding Sputum test & its interview.
I suggest not to get Xray earlier etc,the medical facility will not accept nor compare etc.The X Ray machines in these facilities are of high intensity radiation & whatever earler scarred & fibrosed old patches also are seen. Why should one get exposed to radiation 2 times? Its injurious to health.
Regarding interview slot, try to get the Bio metrics at a further date & search for a interview slot earlier if you have already got Bio metrics done.
                  Best Wishes to all members.

                          • Dear ALL and apshah05

                            UPDATE ON MEDICAL SPUTUM TEST:

This is with regards medical test done at RELE CLINIC, MUMBAI. RELE CLINIC have been super helpful. They do answer your questions and are super nice, be kind as they get many phone calls.

Also make sure you have the medical results from RELE CLINIC. They will send you Information sheet and vaccination summary via email. This is required for the the Interview, so please PRINT.

As mentioned by RELE CLINIC and noted on their website, after the test results were sent to US Embassy, we received an email from the US Embassy on how to schedule the Consulate Interview with 7 days of them sending the medical results to US Embassy. The instructions come via email and are specific to "Class B Medical Applicants".

I would strongly suggest for you to wait for the Email Instructions, follow the Steps and book your appointment upon receipt of email.

You can call the US Travel Docs Support line - India time after 8:00 am and they will help you answer your questions. However for the SPUTUM Tests you have to WAIT and communicate with the MEDICAL facility. We have a positive experience with RELE CLINIC, MUMBAI. From within India, please dial 91-120-4844644 or 91-40-4625-8222. From the United States, please call 1-703-520-2239.

                            Hope this helps. Take Care!

Also tried to follow instructions posted by deftones We were advised by RELE Clinic, MUMBAI to wait for 8 days after they send the results to the US Embassy that the NVC will schedule the appointment. I also tried calling the phone number from US Travel Docs but it doesn't work. I am planning on emailing "[email protected]".
I believe dream2021 is also trying to figure out how to proceed. Should I hear any update, I will post it here. Others, please do so. Thank you and Take Care!

GeoMac I tried many times and now I don't see option to reschedule etc. the menu on the left hand side is not showing up, looks like they have locked it? I am really nervous. I scheduled the VAC on 25th which they clearly cannot go, cannot reschedule. I hope their application is not abandoned or something
