Sorry for the delay in responding to your query. To the best of my knowledge if the Doctor had any doubts he would have referred your father to a psychiatrist. If this has not been done I really see no issues. I do remember, one case reported in this forum, where someone was asked at the interview stage for a psychiatrist assessment. I would suggest that your dad carries some document to certify that there are no psychiatrist issues with your Dad. I have also stated that during the interview, there is no need to volunteer information. Provide small crisp answers. Most likely the medical issue will not be brought up. Generally there is no rejection on medical grounds, except in cases of serious contagious disease or maybe insanity. I see no issues in the case of your father. Bestwishes
Thankyou so much. Your reply is a great relief to us.

I have been inspired by selfless service rendered by you, GeoMac and other senior members of this forum. Most of us are senior citizens, many not so comfortable in English, some are single without living spouse and almost all now dependent on children one way or other. In such scenario, this process is quite stressful for the applicant and more so to the sponsoring child who is mostly away in USA. This forum has been immensely helpful by almost holding the hand right upto inteview window and beyond. This is like a Relay Race and passing the baton to the next Runner. I am trying to do the same and hope it will continue by all potential IR5 immigrants. Thanks for the compliment.
        Dear AS45,
hats off to you once again. You have summed up things very nicely. I like the analogy with the Relay race. God bless you. Hoping that the forum will remain vibrant like this with more members taking up the role of a mentor.

          Dear AS45
This is an examplary gesture by you. We well know that we are all living in more or less similar situations as parents of US citizen children. For us there is a short term "IR5". While we started our journey as IR5, we hardly knew anything of this path but as we walked, the road started becoming visible and we kept on walking. Whenever there were ditches or the bumps, we somehow overcame that and that was it. However what we did is, we looked back and showed the way to those who were behind us or were almost with us. We warned the others of the dangers and also showed how to handle, not because we were expert in that but because we wanted that nobody suffers. That was the real joy. When we saw our colleagues overcoming the hurdles, we experienced an inherant happiness. Now this joy is being experienced by more of us and the relay baton is being passed to the next athlete who will carry the legend further.
I am already in the US almost four months now and so is the case of AlienKanpur. As long as we can, we will continue following the forum and some more "good samaritans" will arise like AS45 and thus the good work will continue. Anyhow, this is also a service of its kind. Best wishes to all IR5s.

Thank you GeoMac and AlienKanpur for your kind words and for making this forum Vibrant and humane. GeoMac has aptly described this journey of all 'IR5's and inspired to make it beacon of light for others to follow. Advice, suggestions and solutions provided in this forum are based on hands on experiences of members and are sometimes better than an immigrant lawyer. Best wishes to all.

                    • Do we need to apply for SSN after entering into US or will it come automatically on petitioner's address?

It will come to the address of Petitioner within 8 days. While filling form DS260 you must have agreed for SS Card.

                          • I know this question is not related to this topic. But if anyone can help here; I did appreciate.

My father arrived here this year a few months ago. He is 77 years old. We live in IL state. He plans to live in US for 8 months and 4 months in India as the cold weather does'nt suit him.

I'm trying to purchase his healthcare insurance for 2023. When I enter all details on healthcare.gov; it says; that local state would be able to provide cheaper insurance. So it provides me insurance rates at full premium price which is very expensive for full year when he only plans to stay for 7-8 months a year.

We asked local state and they provided straight Medicaid; however that insurance comes with a lot of caveats. very few doc, very few hospitals and I personally did not like it.
I tried to buy insurance for new immigrant via insubuy; but they too denied as he is eligible for marketplace insurance.

                            Any other options or suggestions?

First of all, under Medicaid, your father has to return from India within 30 days otherwise your insurance will be discontinued and need to reapply. Marketplace insurance you can make monthly payments so just pay for the months while he is in US.
