Is Mumbai consulate scheduling interviews for IR5 (Parent of a U.S. citizen)

Hello Community,

My parents live in Delhi. All other interviews are for IR5 ours is scheduled in Mumbai on January 11th. Can I schedule the OFC, Biometrics for them in Delhi instead of Mumbai. If I book something in Mumbai they will have to stay in hotel for more than a week which is too much for them.

Hello, received my moms IL for DQ date 31 Jan 2022. Does anyone know if the existing visitor visa gets cancelled when immigrant visa is issued? Or does it remain valid until you enter the US using the immigrant stamp?

My mother arrived in the USA yesterday. She came by Ethiad airlines and had the immigration process completed in Abu Dhabi. Thanks for all suggestions and guidance from everyone. I appreciate all your help. Now we need to wait for SSN and green card.

Congratulations to your mother & you!
I received the SSN card within 6 working days of me going to the SS office. As I waited for 3 weeks, still did not receive, they processed it.
My advise to all .. plz do not go before 3 weeks( my husband went & they told him to come after 3 weeks were completed, they explained that if the Govt has already issued, then he would have 2 SSN
My Green card is also produced & I will receive it in 2 to 3 days. Received a mail.

As they are from Delhi, they have to get the biometric and medical done in Delhi well in advance of the scheduled IR5 interview in Mumbai consulate.

Dear Sanjay,
Lucky that you are in Delhi. I was living in Kanpur and I had scheduled medical on May 11 and Biometrics on May 13, and then travelled back to Kanpur on May 13, immediately after the biometrIcs. You may book the medical immediately and Biometrics a couple of days after the medical. During the medical, your parents will be given some vaccinations, may be 5 but almost certainly 4. There could be some minor fever and fatigue issues subsequent to the vaccinations. Best wishes for a successful adjudication.

IL Recvd - November 18th, 2022
Interview Date - January 11th, 2023 - Mumbai
Medical Done - November 23rd(yesterday) - Max Hospital - Delhi
Biometerics Scheduled - 28th November, Delhi (Cannaught Palace)

My questions and concerns are:
1. Per online system it asks you to select interview location (Mumbai) and allocates only dates for Mumbai OFC.
2. I called US Docs hotline and they shared I can schedule biometerics in any of the 4 centers.
3. So changed the post to Delhi and scheduled them for biometrics.
4. Is above procedure I followed correct ?
5. If biometerics is in delhi would embassy internal system ensures that Finger Prints and Pictures taken reach the officer in Mumbai for our interview on Janaury 11th, 2023?

I am bit nervous as I feel I have hacked the system a bit and steered away from normal procedure of keeping biometerics and interview location as same. Please help.

Heartiest congratulations for getting the IL for your mom. When is the interview? Subsequent to the interview, the officer will immediately tell your mom that your Visa is approved and that her B1/B2 visa is being canceled immediately. Then a stamp will be put on the passport saying that Visa is canceled without prejudice. The passport will be retained by the consulate and within a week the passport will be sent at the address in India, mentioned by your mom, with the temporary Immigrant visa valid for six months from the date of interview. One must enter USA before the expiry of the temporary visa. Best wishes for a successful adjudication.

Well it doesn't matter. You are fine. But, you must have made some mistake while selecting the biometric appointment because the system would let you select the center based on your location, it doesn't force you to select Mumbai only.

Congratulations to you and to your mother for smooth arrival into USA. The stressful part of this process is over. SSN and GC is almost on auto pilot system and mostly does not need any intervention from our side. Best wishes to your mother for this new chapter in her life.

It is my understanding that the card should have arrived in about two weeks. What's the experience of others who have entered the US recently on GC? Also, is there a place where I can check the status? I tried to call the USCIS helpline but they are asking for receipt number but I don't have any such receipt numbers to share. The call goes to an automated assistant.

Hi
GC takes normally about 30 t0 45 days to arrive. It is advised to contact authorities after 90 days if not received. We landed on Oct 6, 22 and received GC after 44 days. You can track GC on https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus by using the receipt number of the fees of $ 220 paid for GC. SSN arrives within 2 weeks. Best wishes.

As for the follow up of Sputum testing here.. which I was told earlier at india, no one has contacted me. I know a few people who were contacted within 15 days of arrival to USA. If any other member knows about this, your info will be most appreciated, thank you
