  • Hi Friends

I am a petitioner for my father. I lost my original birth certification, but I have copies of the birth certificate. Do you think if I got it notarized, that will work?
The visa site says "petitioner's original or certified birth certificate". I am assuming that a notarized is similar to certified?

    Thanks
    -Praveen

    • Hello all,

Like so many others, I must thank this community for its tribal knowledge in helping each other out - deeply appreciate it.

As we get ready for my father's interview, I had a question I could use some guidance on:

Laminated documents - Some of the documents we have are laminated - this is done quite a bit in India - are these accepted at the consulate interviews or do we need certified copies to ensure things are ok?

      Regards.

      • Dear Members,

I have one question regarding I-864 form. I am the sole sponsor for my mother. In I-864, Part 6, it asks to mention sponsor's current individual annual income. Should I mention the annual gross pay (as mentioned in my employment verification letter) or my taxable wages (as mentioned in Box 1 of my W2 form)? Of course, the latter is lower than the the former because of deductions.

I am fine with mentioning any one of them but do not want to get RFE for not following the norm, so thought to ask.

Any advice from members successfully DQed will be of great help.

This is your adjusted gross income. Box 1 in your W2.

This should be OK. Pl consider following options, additionally:
                1. Apply and get another copy. If birth records are online, a user can generate one herself
                2. Take a xerox and get it notarized. Costs about INR 100-200 in India.
                3. Take additional supporting evidences, like SSLC / Board certificates with DoB in case of beneficiary. Family photoes, ration card book, joint account passbooks etc in case of Sponsor's BC.

Unfortunately, not. I called them up twice. The first time, the agent said that he had "alerted the concerned team." The second time (48 hours later), the second agent said the "concerned team has been alerted" and that I just have to wait. I am going to keep calling them every 48 hours until this gets resolved. Not sure what else to do.

If you were not able to get to a human agent, call between 8:00 AM - noon India time (US evening / night). In the automated menu, select Immigrant visa -> Schedule over phone

Anyone else having similar issues, i.e., CGI website going straight to consular interview instead of biometrics first?

                        • hi all - quick question. My mother lives in Chennai and will be attending the interview in Mumbai. Will the passport be mailed after the interview to our Chennai address or does she need to stay extra few days in Mumbai to pick it up? We would prefer if the passport was mailed to our address in chennai, if that's helpful. Thanks in advance!

                          • Hi
My daughter is petitioner and sister is sponsor. DQ date was 21-Jul-2022. Interview date is 28-Mar-2023. Medical done. Biometrics done. I have following questions regarding Interview-
                            1. I will carry my daughter original birth certificate and photocopy of her passport or driver's license. Is that OK? I cant carry original as she is in US.
                            2. I will carry photocopy of my sisters passport or driver's license. Is that OK? I cant carry original as she is in US.
                            3. I wil carry photocopy of latest W2 ans IRS transcript of my sister. Is that OK?
                            4. I had a green card earlier which i surrendered. Will that make any difference in interview questioning?
                            5. I was in USA for 10 years. Will the interview officer ask for police clearance from US? I will be taking original India police clearance that was uploaded to NVC.

Also someone please give me link to the interview questions.

                            Thanks a lot

I dont have direct answers to your questions. I am just about getting ready to file DS-260 for my mom. She had also abandoned her GC 10 years ago.
-My attorney is aware of my her past GC and has given it no relevance other than using the existing SSN. I still have mom's plastic GC which however is expired. Not sure if i need to return them.
-I was told by my attorney that PCC in India has a one year validity and hence might need new one if the interview date is past that.

I just received an email from ustraveldocs that they have fixed my father's àpplication on the backend. I was able to get in and book a biometric for him. It was a problem on their end. Hopefully your problem was fixed as well.
