Please be advised that you need to log into the cgifederal site with a totally new email ID. Separate for each parent. Once the software permits you a log-in, please follow the instructions on each page. Keep someone well versed in English to clarify any doubts when logged in. Most people face problems due to the language barrier, otherwise, it is very straight forward and easy.

Yup.. Figured it out.. I created new one for my Mom because it gave me error while adding her as dependent but all I had to do was wait for couple of hours to reflect.

Adding a dependent does not work for me at all. I have a support case open for this issue for more than a week. I was informed that they have technical issues and are performing an update to the website ( I hear the same thing daily!)
So, I removed the dependent and created separate accts for mom & dad. But there are NO appts available in Mumbai for biometrics in Sept. I don't know what to do!!

Has anyone in CT applied for health insurance after receiving their IR5 category-green card? Or if anyone else has some insight into the medical insurance process, uploading indian tax return etc, as proof of income, i would appreciate you reaching out.

There is no problem if one parent wants to return to India. Just ensure that the stay in India is strictly less than 180 days. Best wishes

Dear mnjn,
1.) Passport renewal in India takes only 3 to 4 days. Tatkal services are also available at all PSKs. This takes 24 hrs wherein you will have to do the police verification after issue of passport.
2.) PCC on new Passport will take 7 days and can be started on receipt of the new passports.
3.) Biometrics and Medical can be done immediately on receipt of the passports.
4.) Please be advised that getting an appointment for Biometrics and Medical is very easy. Kindly take the help of a clueful computer operator who will know how to FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS as and when he logs into the cgifederal site. If you do not get an available slot please keep trying again and again after a gap of 1/2 days.
P.S.:- I faced the same problem and finally got all my work completed.

I was wondering, if I could go ahead and schedule biometrics and medical appointments while the passport are getting renewed.
As an fyi — we have a visa interview date of 6th Oct 2023 at the consulate.

I am not getting any other dates so far. Also what happens in biometric ? do they take passport or Do i need to collect any document next day ?

I would schedule both right away if I were you! Biometrics appointments are super hard to come by these days and there’s often a wait period of months if you can even get an appointment. They can always carry their old as well as the renewed passports to these appointments to eliminate any issues with the passport numbers being different!

Need one clarification on medical appoitment. My parents interview is scheduled on 31st Oct at Mumbai.. i called to Ahmedabad apolo hospital to schedule medical for them. But I got a response that I need to schedule appoitment in last 15 days before interview i.e. between 16th to 30th. If I do it in this month, NVC won't accept medical. Is this true ? Is something changed ? What i know is medical is valid for 6 months.

They are also saying i can do appoitment now but they wont take any authority if something happenes because of medical report as I did it in Aug instead of Oct.

Hi All:

I and my parents are in a spot, I guess.

1. My parent's Indian passports have expired, and they have started process to renew them. Their passport renewal interview appointment is on 4th Sep 2023.

2. The Police Verification that my parents did with the now expired passports -- was done on 10th Oct 2022. Per guidelines these verifications are valid for one year.

3. Just today, my parents received their IR-5 visa interview letters. The interviews are scheduled for 06th Oct 2023 in Mumbai consulate.

Based on the comments in this forum, I think it would be hard to get VAC Biometrics done before the interviews.

But more importantly, my parents' passports would not be valid, and not sure when they would receive their new Indian passports. Plus the Police PCC certificates would have reference for old passport numbers, and I think we would need new PCCs as well.

Would you please advise on the best course of action here? I appreciate all your help and comments!

No need to get fresh PCC on new passports. The old one is valid if within the date limit. Just carry the old and new passports for the interview. If you change it for tatkal you'd get your passports on time for your fingerprinting. Good luck

obnox you can schedule biometrics anywhere/any city before the interview as long as you’re able to travel back to the city of the interview consulate in time. They do advise getting biometrics done more than 2-3 days before the interview but given the current circumstances and issues around availability, I think as long as biometrics are done before the interview, it should suffice!

during the biometrics, they will simply get some fingerprints done (non-ink/digital), and they’ll snap photos. They don’t collect/keep any documents there but you’ll need to carry the DS 260 confirmation, biometrics appointment confirmation, and your passport.

Yes, both Medical and Biometrics they will require VALID passports.

Yes, that can be done.
In Biometrics, only finger printing and photo is done. One form which you fill up is stamped and returned alongwith the passport immediately.

Nothing has changed in doing the medical. It is just logical that you do the medical 15 days before your Interview date as the IR5 visa is valid for only 6 months from the date of completing your medical successfully.
