  • Does anyone know a group or forum for IR5 category. I'm particularly trying to find a group or forum where timelines are posted for Interview at Mumbai consulate India.

I tried searching all over, there are few scattered post here and there but was not able to find a specific timeline post. Visa Journey has some, but lacks for Mumbai, India timelines.

    Any help/suggestions much appreciated. Thanks

I was the primary sponsor. I uploaded my husband’s I-864A household member AOS, passport, naturalization , drivers license, 6 months of paystubs and 3 years of tax returns on the CEAC portal.

Only did not upload W2, so now my mom has to put them in their Dropbox in Hyderabad and wait for approval. I wonder how long it takes.. she got a 221g saying it will be approved once W2s are dropped off.
Thank you Sanza. Did you get a response after the documents were submitted for the 221g?

Have you tried an app called lawfully? its supposed to have estimates for timelines based on inputs from individuals who have updated their info in the app. Let me know if you're able to find any other resources. Thanks

        • Hello everyone,

My parents could not make their IR5/Mumbai interview in Nov 2023. They went for their VAC in Jan 2024, but I can not for the life of me figure out how to reschedule their IR5 appointment again. Tried sending messages on usvisascheduling.com and I get the stock response to reschedule on their website. There is no option to reschedule on that broken website! All it will let me do is to make the VAC appt again, not IR5.

Did anyone actually have success with rescheduling their IR5 appointment and mind letting me know what process you followed?

          • I messed up and didn't schedule the biometrics appointment as the letter from NVC didn't mention it for my parents and they were turned back at Mumbai consulate. This was on Jan 30th. I registered them in USVisascheduling (I used 1 profile for my Mom and added my Dad as dependent and it seemed to have worked, they both have different applications though).

Obviously I am not finding any slots in any of the VACs to schedule the biometrics. Did people just keep on trying till they luckout with finding a slot or should we call into customer service numbers?

            Thanks!

            • Hello everyone,
My mother got her green card approved and arrived at SFO airport for the first time on Jan 6th Saturday evening. She got her passport stamped saying “Admitted” at the immigration counter and then went for the secondary inspection which took just 10 minutes where we were not asked any question.

I checked the status of green card on this link https://egov.uscis.gov/ by entering the receipt number which starts with “IOExxxxxxx” and it shows an old status from Dec 2022 saying “The case was sent to the department of state”. Does anyone know how much time it takes to update the green card status and the timeline of receiving the Social Security card and green card through mail?

We paid the green card fees after she cleared her interview and before flying to US. I hope there is no additional step she needs to do after entering the US.

              Thank you.

              • Hi all,

Just want to provide an update and could use any advise from anyone who has encountered this before (I tried searching old posts in this forum but couldn't find any related).

So one parent (Mom) documentary qualified and I was thrilled, but when going into the other parents (Dad) page, it seems that NVC has rejected the Marriage certificate & Police Verification Certificate. I cannot understand why, since both were approved for the other parent.

I'm currently very confused as to what I should do next as the Marriage certificate is an official extract from the Register of Marriages and the Police verification was obtained after lot of trouble from the Police Department (my parents are older and have disabilities and are not very mobile at the moment).

                Does any one have suggestions?
I had planned to travel to help them with the next stage but it looks like this might get delayed.
Thanks a lot and glad to have this resource!

Cannot help with the Police Clearance certificate, but we had the reverse situation where the Marriage Affidavit that we had (no marriage certificates as they were married in 1970s) was rejected for my Mom and then approved for my Dad. I just updated saying that no Marriage certificate is available and they ended up approving it.

                  • Do we need to indicate anything in DS-260 form so that both parents get scheduled together for the interview? One of my parent got DQ'ed but other parent is still awaiting I-130 approval (though applied I-130 at the same time). Hoping once other parent gets I130 approved and DQed, I would like to make sure interview scheduled together and thought there might a field in DS-260 that provides indication to NVC to have them together for the interview.

                    • Hello everyone,

I had questions regarding the validity/expiration period of I-130, DQ and IR5 appointment (Mumbai consulate).

I-130 filed for my parents was approved in 03/2023. I filed at NVC and they got DQ date of 4/2023. My parents got the IR5 interview email with interview scheduled in 10/2023. However, due to some issue, they could not attend that interview. Now, due to some unforeseen circumstances, they are NOT sure if they want to come to the US on green card at this time. They have a previously stamped valid 10-year US tourist visa (since they have traveled to the US multiple times in the past, all before I initiated their I-130).

                      My questions.

                      1. Is there a validity-period/expiration of either the I-130 or IR5 appointment scheduling, such that if my parents do not schedule their IR5 appointment by a certain date, this entire GC application will lapse?

                      2. Is there any way to pend this process in a way that allows them to travel to the US for a couple of months on their existing tourist visa? Upon return to India, could they resume their IR5 interview scheduling process?

                      3. If not, is there a way for me to withdraw the IR5 process and/or I-130, such that it will allow them to travel to the US on their tourist visa for a few months? Would such a withdrawal hurt their chances of getting GC if I was to restart a fresh GC process for them in the future.

To clarify, there are no changes/problems with the I-130 or I-864. The decision to not pursue GC at this time is something personal.

Will appreciate any insights. Thanks a lot in advance.

                      • Hello, General question regarding sponsoring green card for my mother.
She currently has Visitor Visa (B2) valid till next year (Sept. 2025).
I am planning to apply for Consular processing but she doesn't speak English (we are from Andhra Pradesh) and reading the posts, it seems like the interview is only at Mumbai, please correct me if I am wrong.
I lost my dad few years back (6), but do have two sisters, both settled in India and have small properties, but none on my moms name though. They are still on my fathers name.
Would there be any problem (with rejection) of green card during interview because she has no assets on her name other than telling them about the binding with her two daughters?

Please share your thoughts. Thank you.

It's almost more than a month, I hope you have received the SSN. If not then it's better to visit the nearest SSN office, carry the passport & show them the admit stamp. They will mail the SSN. About GC, you will get it within 90 days by mail at the address you provided at the time of filing the petition.

You can try to take VAC appointment at different locations, Delhi, Chennai etc.

Police clearance is to be done from the passport office or from https://passportindia.gov.in/AppOnli...ceVerification

Once you get the appointment letter from the NVC, you can go to http://usvisascheduling.com/ and schedule your one parent's appointment then add another parent in the same profile as a dependent.
