  • What to do if one of the applicants (parents) has passed away

    Hi Friends

I had applied for GC for both my parents. USCIS had approved it and I was at the stage where I was to submit additional documents, pay fee and look to seek an interview date with NVC. My mother unfortunately passed away. I have couple of questions and would appreciate your help:

    1. Do I need to inform USCIS or NVC of her passing?
    2. I plan on going ahead with applying for my father's visa. Does his application get affected in any way due to this unfortunate event.

    Thanks

    1. Sure, you can inform them. But it wouldn't matter if you didn't, because she wouldn't submit any more documents or attend any appointments so it would eventually be abandoned.
    2. No, since they are each petitioned on separate I-130 petitions

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.
