I-864 or I-864a

I am a US citizen sponsoring my wife and two step children, who are currently in India. I am currently unemployed but looking for a job, with no income and am living with my mother, who is employed with income enough to sponsor my family. My mother has no dependents and does not claim me as a dependent. I would like to use my mother as a sponsor but not sure if I should be using the I-864 or I-864a for her.

Technically could I use either, and would the I-864 be more appropriate or the I-864a?

Basically you need to file I-864 & your mother need to file I-864A.
