After reading many doubts and misleading information in the forums I have compiled the following information for helping everyone waiting for their IR5 immigrant visa interviews at Mumbai US Consulate:- (This information is authentic and collated after interacting with persons awaiting for their IR5 visas).
1.) All IR5 visa processing in India is being done ONLY in Mumbai US Consulate.
2.) Huge backlogs are there due to Covid and currently Sep 2020 DQ persons have been given the interview letters recently for March 2022 interviews.
3.) Waiting period after DQ for the interview letter is anywhere between 12 months to 18 months as seen from the past data and ongoing processing.
4.) I have read many queries regarding PCC. The PCC issued by your respective RPO is valid for ONE year only. Do not get misled by wrong information given on these forums. In India the respective RPO/PSK is authorized to issue this and no one else.
5.) You get ONLY 15 days to prepare for your interview. To save time kindly keep all your docs updated and ready.
6.) Interview itself takes ONLY 10 to 15 minutes.
7.) Some of the following questions are normally asked during the interview process:-
(a) Who is your sponsor?
(b) When did your sponsor move to the US?
(c) Where do they live in the US?
(d) Where do they work in the US?
(e) What about your other kids/children?
(f) Have you lived in any other country for more than ONE year?
(g) Have you been to the US before?
(h) Have you ever stayed in the US for more than 6 months?
(i) Where are you planning to stay in the US?
8.) Kindly bring the latest Form 1040 (IT transcript) and relevant W2s of your sponsor.
9.) Medical appointment is taken only after getting the interview letter. You have to take appointment for this.
10.) Biometrics and photo is done by respective VACs after getting interview letter. You have to take appointment for this.
11.) Bring all originals of all your docs submitted by you on the CEAC site. Make ONE good copy of ALL these docs and bring them in a separate folder. All these should be notarised and translated, if required.
12.) Sponsor's marriage certificate and other docs can be notarised copies.
13.) Old parents are given full help by Consulate staff. Wheel chairs are provided and there is good seating arrangement in the waiting area.
14.) After successfully completing the interview you will get your visa stamped passport in 3 to 5 working days at the address you have given in your biometric form in the VAC.
15.) Closest hotels to the US Consulate are:- Sofitel, Trident both 5 star. Many economy clean hotels are available in the BKC, Mumbai area and can be Googled on the OYO site.
