  • Moscow Embassy not providing Consular services

    Hello,

I'm just beginning the process of getting my wife of 10 years I140 visa and trying to anticipate the snags. She is Russian citizen and we have lived together in St. Petersburg that entire time. Currently US embassy in Moscow is not providing any Consular services due to war in Ukraine and diplomatic tensions. It says on website that immigrant visas applications will be processed through Warsaw. Unfortunately, despite having had a number of Shengen visas (visas that allow travel to most EU countries), she does not currently have one, and Poland is apparently not issuing them to Russians at this moment except for humanitarian reasons. The only embassies she would be able to get to include under current sanctions and policies would be Turkey, emirates, Thailand, kazakhstan, etc.

Do I understand correctly that the file is automatically referred to the embassy that handles immigrant visas for her citizenship - in this case currently Warsaw, Poland? Where in the process can I try to get that changed - or is it even possible? Is a date automatically scheduled, or do you have to go through the online process of getting an appointment date?

Thank you in advance for any assistance.
