  • Is this normal?

My husband and I applied for his Canadian to US immigration visa in November of 2019. In September for 2021 we finally got our interview and because of a record issue he was told he needed to apply for a waiver. We started working with one person immediately (not a lawyer but someone who did that type of work) They were not very professional, did a lot of copy and pasting so we ultimately decided to not go with them and instead hire an actual immigration lawyer to deal with the waiver. We hired them in January 2022. They said based on my husbands record, he shouldn't require a waiver and instead will request all the information from Montreal consulate and basically ask them to reconsider. Since January 2022 nothing has been updated. We requested an update in February because at the time they said it would take about a month to hear back. In February they said there was no update and Montreal is backlogged and it could take weeks/months. That was out last update. We requested and update in May and didn't get one.

Is it normal for a lawyer to not update their clients or check in when its been a long time?
