Is the police certificate valid for 1 year or 2 years?

Hi

The police certificate from the passport office (for immigration purposes) - is that valid for 1 year or 2 years (from the issue date). Since the process is taking such a long time, I am wondering if my father will need to get a new certificate from the passport office.
