  • Does immigrant visa allows multiple entry?

My follow-to-join family recently approved their employment based immigrant visa abroad. The visa expiry date is 5 months from the date of issue.

For some reason they needed to be in home country around Feb/March 2023.

Assuming they travel to USA now & have to go back before they receive their physical green card, can they use their immigrant visa again to re-enter?

No. Immigrant visas are single use. But at the moment of entry, the immigrant visa automatically turns into an I-551 (equivalent to a green card, which is also an I-551) valid until 1 year after the date of entry. They can use this immigrant-visa-turned-I-551 to enter the US for as many times as they want during that 1 year after their initial entry. The immigrant visa's expiration date no longer matters after it was used to enter the first time (since it's single use anyway).

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.
