immigrant visa processing fee - how to keep status active

My lawyer received notice to pay the immigrant visa processing fee(s) to keep my case active
I am yet to travel to USA and want to wait till EB2 priority date gets current, Mine is May2013
Can someone advise what to do so as to pay only when I decide to travel to USA? Attorney says that I need to 'connect' to NVC but do not give details
