My parents had their immigrant visa interview at an embassy outside the US in April 2022. After the interview they were told that their visa was refused under section 221(g) and were told to submit photograph evidence. The embassy did not return their passports. My parents submitted the requested evidence and have not heard back yet. Now my father's passport is going to expire soon.
The last email from the emabssy (1 month ago) said the following
"The time this processing may take varies from applicant to applicant. The wait time can be lengthy"
Would the embassy stamp the visa on the expired passport?. Should my father ask for the passport back to have it renewed or should he just inform the embassy of expiration?
