I would like to move from Thailand to the US to be with my daughter in 2 years and we are trying to schedule around other life events. When should we start the application process? If we wait, we risk unforeseen bureaucratic delays stalling beyond 2 years from today. But if we start now, it's likely I will be approved and my 6-month visa validity will expire less than 2 years from today.
travel.state.gov says "You must arrive in and apply for admission to the United States no later than the visa expiration date... An immigrant visa is usually valid for up to six months from the date of issuance..."
