OCI card for minor child (US citizen): Is Naturalization Cert required?

Hi,

Indian origin, Recently became US citizens - both, the parents and the child. Child is under 18. Have U.S. passports already. Looking to apply for OCI for the child. Is US Naturalization (i.e. Citizenship) Certificate a mandatory requirement for the OCI Card application? Parents have the Cert, the child does not have it yet.

If it's NOT mandatory, any reasons we should get that first?

Copy of Naturalization Certificate:
If you are a former Indian national or Non-US born, a copy of your Naturalization Certificate is required. If a minor gained naturalization through his/her parents and possesses no separate naturalization certificate, then copies of the parents' naturalization certificates and a notarized written statement signed by both parents is required stating the circumstances that their child received his/her naturalization status and why the child does not possess his/her own certificate. If you have obtained more than one nationality after having Indian citizenship, please provide all Naturalization Certificates or proof of nationality from all countries that you have held citizenship.

Hi,

We were in the same boat like you. We recently became US citizens, acquired US passports. And we recently applied the OCI card as a family (me, my hubby & my daughter Indian born minor), the requirements are: we need to make notary/ affidavit saying that the minor has acquired the naturalization through parents. And also we need to send the copy of both parents naturalization certificates.
