I have some questions regarding the newly issued rules on OCI cards.
I am 56 years old, and a US citizen. I am an OCI card holder. My OCI card was issued on 22/2/2009. My passport expired in 2010 and I got a new passport then. I have traveled to India a couple of times on this new passport, with the OCI sticker in the old passport.
1. According to the new rules, if I get a new passport, I need to get my OCI card reissued. Does this apply to my current passport, or to the passport that I get when the current one expires in 2020?
2. From what I understand, it takes about 60 days to process an application for an OCI card. I will be traveling to Germany on work next Saturday (May 11) and will then travel to India in July. How do I work this out?
3. My wife (who is 54 and in the same boat) will be traveling to India on May 28th. Will we have problems at Delhi airport?
Update: I talked to Ms. Goswami (I believe she is the Second Secretary) at the Indian Embassy in Washington, DC, and she told me that I should have no problems. She also told me that I should email them with my experiences (which means that they have no idea what is going on).
