Having US passport for minor, do we need PIO/OCI card?

Hi

I have recently applied for US passport for my child from India. My child was born in US and was having an Indian passport at that time. We are in India currently, but we wish to travel back to US. So we have taken a US passport for the child.

Do I need to apply for the PIO card from India itself before I travel to US? Can my child travel to US on only the US passport or will the child require any other supporting document?

And also can somebody let me know where do and how do I handover the Indian passport since the child has a US passport now?

In order to travel to the US, your child needs only US passport.

You do not hand over Indian passport anywhere but keep it with you. You can't use it to travel though.

So can I apply for the PIO or OCI card after I reach US? Will it be good to keep the Indian passport also without handovering it to the concerned authorities?

So when I am travelling to the US won't the officer at immigration clearance at the port of entry ask me for a PIO/OCI card?

No, US passport is the only thing needed to go to the US.

Yes, you can apply for PIO/OCI after reaching US.

I'm not sure if you'd get questioned at exit control at the airport since there won't be a visa in the passport.
