My mom is currently in India on a travel visa. She is a US citizen, born in India. Her travel visa was near expiry, but she was able to extend it for a few weeks due to medical issues – but had to show that she had purchased a return ticket.
Is there any way she can remain in India by applying for a PIO card? Or can that only be done from the US? She has the necessary documents with her (old Indian passport, renunciation letter etc.). She has Alzheimer’s which makes it hard for her to travel alone – which is what is required for her to return to US. A PIO card might help give us more time to find someone to assist her with travel.
