Travel Requirement for PIO Holder

We urgently need to go to India and my 9 year old son is a PIO holder but his American passport is expiring on Dec6th 2013. We are going on July 07/25th and will return in 4 weeks. Will there be any problem? Is there any passport validity requirement for PIO holder.
