I checked bls site today to track my visa and it says:

Additional Documents Required by Consulate :31-12-2013
( Please submit letter explaining how and when you entered the united states and a copy of your green card at the time of aquiring citizenship)

I have two problems. One I don't know what they mean by how I came to America. Are they looking for a simple answer that I came in a plane?

And two, I don't have a copy of my green card because when I received my citizenship oath, they took it away.

I tried calling them but they are closed due to New year. I will drive down tomorrow to give them the letter and don't want it to be a wasted trip.any help is appreciated.

Generally, the correct answer would be by "immigrant (or employment-based) visa," and approximate date of entrance.
The Green Card is unavailable, as it was "surrendered" to USCIS when U.S. citizenship was acquired.

I would advise to provide a more generic answer, i.e., "entered U.S. with a nonimmigrant visa." I believe that most people who claim asylum in the U.S. either enter with a visitor visa or are "walkovers," at Mexican or Canadian border. There was a large number of Chinese students (on student visas) who claimed asylum (on advice of U.S. government) after the Tiananmen massacre, and subsequently obtained Green Card status. It has been a strategy of some immigration attorneys in SF Bay Area to encourage Chinese clients (on visitor visas) to claim asylum based on the "one child rule." Such claims ("one child rule" basis) have often been denied early on or later in Immigration Court, as "frivolous."

I would appreciate if someone can please update as to what you submitted and what else the consulate asked. They are asking me the same thing. I got my green card in 1991 and have been a citizen since 2002. How is it their business how we got here. As long as we are US citizens.

Hi, in last email they told me that my documents are received but in this week's enquiry they send me same e mail that additional documents are required (by same person)and re submit my application.I have no clue that i have to pay them again renunciation and visa fee,do i need an appointment again.Its such a complicated system.

Hi, cafeconleche, i have done this twice,i have written a cover letter too,i am going to do it third time, i sent them too many e mails, some time they say they got additional documents and when i enquire next time then they repeat their old message that additional documents needed.If they need anything then why dont they ask?Should i explain in letter that how i came here and how i applied for green card and citizenship?Thanks.

Do NOT tell them you claimed asylum. You're going to have to make something up. But, I thought they stopped asking people how they got permanent residence. Have they started again? I really don't get these numbskulls. Go in person if you can.

Hi, cafeconleche, Thanks for reply,actually i didn't apply for asylum but i dont have my passport with me , i have copy of that , thats why they are creating problems for indian renunciation. I don't know why they don't have knowledge of this thing that we can not get citizenship without green card.
