hi guys! wondering if anybody can help me out here..

first and foremost, I was born and raised in the US, and am a US citizen. I got my OCI card through my parents about 6 years ago ( i was a minor back then).... a few months ago i lost my oci card while moving out of my parents house. the problem is that on the bls/indian consulate website it says that if I lost my oci card I must provide: copy of naturalization certificate and proof of renunciation of indian citizenship (only applies if applicants old OCI card was issued before june 1, 2010)..

now i can't get help from my parents cuz we're not exactly on good terms right now..and are not speaking to each other at all. i am married to an indian citizen tho... but he is also confused since the consulate and the company that they outsourced to don't pick up, and if they do they just say that all the information is online.

so.. as far as the copy of naturalization cert goes, I can just send in a copy of my US birth certificate right? also, what am i supposed to do about the proof of renunciation of indian citizenship? i was never an indian citizen, so i dont have proof of renunciation and i got my oci through my parents. so would i have to show proof of my parents renunciation? what if I'm not able to show my parent's proof of renunciation?

this is what was on the bls website:

    Copy of Naturalization Certificate:
If you are a former Indian national or Non-US born, a copy of your Naturalization Certificate is required. If a minor gained naturalization through his/her parents and possesses no separate naturalization certificate, then copies of the parents' naturalization certificates and a notarized written statement signed by both parents is required stating the circumstances that their child received his/her naturalization status and why the child does not possess his/her own certificate. If you have obtained more than one nationality after having Indian citizenship, please provide all Naturalization Certificates or proof of nationality from all countries that you have held citizenship. The US Naturalization Certificate should state 'Former Nationality' as India. Certificates which state 'Country of Birth' as India cannot be accepted.

Proof of Renunciation of Indian Citizenship - only applies if applicant's old OCI card was issued before June 1st, 2010:
If the applicant has already renounced Indian citizenship, one of the following must be produced as proof:
A copy of your Certificate of Renunciation issued by a Consulate of India or,
Your cancelled Indian passport with stamp stating the passport is canceled due to obtaining US (or any non Indian country) citizenship.

If the applicant has NOT renounced their Indian citizenship, or cannot show proof, the following must be provided:
    Most recent Indian passport.
    Copy of your naturalization certificate
If the most recent Indian passport is available, provide the following:
Two (2) copies of the completed Renunciation Certificate Form
Copies of the first three pages and the last two pages of the most recent Indian passport.
If you do not have your most recent Indian passport, your naturalization date will determine what requirements are needed.
You must provide a notarized Affidavit of Loss. If applying in Houston, a police report for the lost Indian passport is required with either a copy of your Indian birth certificate or school leaving certificate.
If you were naturalized over 10 years from today, you must provide two (2) copies of a Deemed Surrender Certificate form.
If you were naturalized after June 1, 2010, you must provide two (2) copies of the Renunciation Declaration form.
There will be a separate renunciation fee automatically calculated on the Order Form depending the date of naturalization:
Naturalized before June 1, 2010: $25.00 renunciation fee
Naturalized on or after June 1, 2010: $175.00 renunciation fee

    thanks!

p.s.- i do have a colored photo copy of my lost oci card

As you are US citizen by birth, I do not think these requirements of copy of naturalization certificate and renunciation form applies to you. There is a separate process for OCI Re-issue/Lost or Damaged. You should find this under the OCI tab in the BLS website. The instructions also states that copy of naturalization certificate is required only if you were a Indian citizen at any time.

Here are some of the other requirements that are specified.

One printed copy of the completed Online OCI Miscellaneous Form should be submitted. In order to complete the form, you will need at least one of the following:
    1.1 U-Visa number
    1.2 OCI Registration number
    1.3 OCI File number
Then, you will need to enter all of the following information:
    1.4 Current Passport number
    1.5 Date of birth
    1.6 Place of birth
    1.7 Mother's name

This information MUST match what you entered in online form when you applied for your original OCI card. Otherwise, you will not be able to proceed. Once this information has been entered, select the desired miscellaneous service. Once you have made your selections, the form will prompt you for the necessary information. Please print and sign this form once it is complete. Please bring / Send two sets of all Documents (mandatory)

    I hope this helps.

    Best,

      Help!

      Hi,

My picture on the OCI stamp is slightly damaged--everything else on the stamp is intact, but the picture is slightly blurry. My OCI booklet is fine, but the stamp got damaged by water spillage. I am going to India soon--what can I expect when I leave Canada for India. Meaning, will India send me back to Canada? My flight is in a few days and I do not have time (nor will the Counsulate) issue me another stamp or tourist visa at this point.

      Thanks in advance.
